  1. apparently it wasn't a drill... Injured climber rescued at Smith Rock From Bend.com news sources Posted: Saturday, September 18, 2004 11:27 PM Reference Code: AR-18040 September 18 - TERREBONNE – An injured climber was rescued Saturday from the base of Monkey Face at Smith Rock State Park and taken to a Redmond hospital for treatment, Deschutes County sheriff’s officers said. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue responded to the park around 1:45 p.m. to assist Redmond Fire medics with Mark Kent, 42, said sheriff’s Sgt. Shane Nelson. The Redmond Fire crew treated the patient and prepared him for transport. With the help of Search and Rescue, Kent was brought down the climbing trail on a wheeled litter, then transported across the Crooked River by raft to a waiting Redmond ambulance, which took him to St. Charles Medical Center-Redmond, Nelson said. Ten Search and Rescue volunteers took part in the incident. A nursing supervisor said Kent was not admitted to the hospital.

  12. go out with a friend or two and practice snow stuff like axe use, crampons, roped team travel, glacier rescue and then add your trad rock skillz to do something cool. I don't know WA too well, but don't peaks like Dome, Eldorado, Shuksan offer a variety of mild terrain types?
