  1. Anyone been up Adams lately? Is it too late to ski it? Or will I have to take off my skis every 30 feet...
  2. I heard it was something about testing the gravitational forces that that huge amount of rock actually causes. I can find out more... know a physics grad student who told me about it once. Me being a non-physics person I just said "cool!" and kept driving.
  3. I'm also working. The one weekend it's nice is the one weekend I have to work. Figures. I might catch part of the solstice parade on Saturday and drink heavily to ease my pain.

Jesus you guys are making me rack up my Amazon account.
  6. I saw one of those at Smith on Sunday night! It was AWESOME! Did anyone else see it? It lasted about 5 seconds. I remember seeing one like that a few years ago at Smith too. Amazing.
  7. Anybody know what kind of snake this is? (attached) Sorry for the out-of-focusness. [it's like my picture of bigfoot, who I saw last week. I had a camera, but all my pictures had my finger over the shutter, go fig.] It did not have a rattle, fyi. Girls - watch where you pee!!
  8. Are you in this pic? (see attachment)
  9. Missed y'all at Smith, my buddy and I kept pretty quiet and I couldn't remember the car details (note to self - next time write down). Sat: Climbed Koala, if you haven't done it I highly recommend! Sun: Got in line for Spiderman, decided to bail and Walked around the entire park, hadn't done that before. Almost stepped on a snake. Realized how out of climbing shape I am (depressing)... must get back in the game! Congrats Selkirk on the lead - now you can climb Deirdre at Squamish! What was the route you did?
  10. Wow, I actually agree with marylou. Yeah, I agree too. See, the thing is, some guys hit on you and it makes you shiver (Creepy!!). Others can hit on you and you have no idea, cuz it's really just conversation. B4 u know it, u think he's cool and attractive, or not. Or maybe you're already dating someone. Whatever it is, a cool guy gets it if we don't go for him, and stops PUSHING. Those who don't get it are just annoying. If you end up in the "not attracted but also not annoying and pushy" category, then getting beers together and climbing some routes are in order!
  11. Ha!! That's AWESOME! I might have to order me one of those!
  12. I knew someone would respond like that. fwiw - the original plan this weekend was Adams, but due to weather I'm finding that Smith is more realistic. I also plan to be avoiding the sport areas for some quieter trad - hopefully that won't be conglomerated too. I hear you on the "how should I go about finding a girl who enjoys the same" -- but I think you guys would prefer Anabelle or Jennifer Conelly. Now that I've somehow branded myself as sexless and a prude that needs to completely cover herself in burlap or a burqa order to climb in peace, I'll go on ahead and climb something (and I haven't selected my outfit yet). Maybe I can get far far away from the sharks looking for girls who like shiny gear on the outside of their packs and find people who enjoy the same as I do. Why is that so hard to understand? The real point of my post was that I won't be selecting my route based on the hot guys climbing on the route next to it. (Not that it's not a bonus!!) Sure this can go to spray now, but I'm not going to beat a dead horse. It's all good. Do what you want.
  13. I'll be joining the crowds at Smith, staying at the free camp area. Look for the tan (e.g. dirt-colored) Subaru wagon and the girl in the burqa. (jk) Actually, the Sub has a "Climbers for Kerry" bumper sticker, if that helps. PM me if ya like.
  14. Queen of da Nile, baby. Sizzlin! (and choose to be blissfully ignorant too... life is often happier when you live like a little kid). YAY!
  15. sheesh, and I always thought if one place was safe from the superficial eye, it'd be climbing. When did this turn into yet another meatmarket? (do not mention climbing gyms) I, naively, really hoped that maybe us girls weren't on stage EVERYWHERE WE GO.. No wonder so many women fuss about their looks all the time - everyone's constantly LOOKING at us and rating our tops when maybe all we really want is for y'all to mind yer own bizness and let us just CLIMB. Oh, and you can climb too while you're at it, if you're nice maybe I'll let you follow my incredible 5.7 lead. Leave the flirting for the campfire or, better yet, the bar. There I'm sure you'll find many lovely ladies who spent several hours becoming GORGEOUS *just* for YOU! Now, I hope to make it to Smith this weekend and there BETTER be some hot tan hairless guys there with shirts OFF for entertainment while I stand in line... Thanks very much.
  16. Dude, I suffered from the terrible shrinking weekend too! At least you GOT outside! I was going to go up to L-worth this weekend and ended up bailing due to rain and increasingly terrible forecasts. The stupid thing is I waffled on everything for so long that I missed out on several alternate possibilities (like sailing w/some friends) - all decisions made were made TOO LATE!! It seems when I make plans alone I bail a lot faster than otherwise, which is just stupid. grrrrr I'm so frustrated w/myself. Fwiw, the weather in Seattle was spectacular on Sunday - and looking at random webcams it didn't look that way in the mountains, so I did get to enjoy some sunshine, albeit in the city. I hope to be appeased this weekend. If I get weathered "in" this time I'll go insane. Wait, I won't get weathered in, I'll be out IN the weather - no matter what it is!
  17. It's looking like it might rain, that kind of sucks. Still planning on going tho.
  18. I hear it was often confused w/Mt. Adams. It was probably about the same. I met an old woman who had summited it long ago (when female climbers were few and far between), and she didn't seem to think it was all that hard. Then again, there were probably ways to make it so!
  19. I took the WFR course last year with the Wilderness Medicine Training Center: http://www.wildmedcenter.com/ It was AWESOME. My instructor was the school owner, Paul Nicolazzo - if you can get one of the classes he teaches, do it. It's 9 days long and you can live in a tent to avoid any lodging fees. (...and Mazama is a fun place to camp for 9 days!) Bring your own food, just pay for the class. There was a surgeon in our class and he was astounded at the stuff we were learning. Highly recommend it. I'm also taking the OEC this fall with the Alpental Ski Patrol (doing the volunteer thing) - I'll let you know how that goes.
  20. I was up there on Sunday too! Beautiful up there. We were going to see about climbing the route, but the North peak was socked in clouds the whole time. Didn't want to attempt it for the first time w/o being able to see where I was going. Next time. It was an awesome hike nonetheless. The road was dry all the way to the trailhead. No problems there.
