  1. Of course a sports' team has benefits for the area. However, I don't support corporate welfare and corporate extortion - whether it comes from a sports franchise or any other industry. And that's what these teams do when they want their new stadium. And it irks me to no end that the Kingdome wasn't even paid off when they demolished it!
  2. Good, I hope they all leave. I'm tired of my tax dollars subsidizing pro sports arenas. I'm still at a complete loss as to why our football team and baseball team both needed their own fucking stadiums. What a waste of space and money. Or how the voters rejected Safeco field and our legislators did it anyway.
  3. I could swear I've read of people with low of a heart rate and it is healthy (but rare and indicative of a very fit individual). When I was in college my heart rate was around 80-90 and bp 140/90, pumped full of caffeine and stress. Now I'm done to 60-65 and 120/75 even with caffeine in the blood, so I am stoked.
  4. at just over 5'10 and 175, I'm right on the border. Woo-hoo!

  8. It's not $18. That's just the entry fee. Add $20 for a campsite and $8 for a campfire, and, and, and. My question still remains. Did you pay $8 for a campfire? I haven't gone yet. Read the first post.
  9. You're not going with little kids, are you?

  13. As Murray has explained, it is a business, as is the government itself. Yes, parks are for all to enjoy, but that doesn't mean that they're free. I can assure you that the number of Canadians who have never visited a national park in their life is far larger than the number who have. Why shouldn't those who do visit pay for it like any other service? I certainly don't have a problem with it. I suspect that US parks get far more visitors per year than Canadian parks. High volume leads to low pricing. Quick internet search reveals: In 2004/2005 Banff National Park received 3,927,557 visitors In 2004, Yellowstone received 2,868,316 visitors.

  15. Not mature, hooked on Coke at 21. She got a life of addiction behaviors to look forward too. Tons of money but a ton of baggage. Pretty sad. What about birth control? What about it?

  18. wow, really? you stud.
  19. At least LL is hot.
  20. The email thread started out too strident and obnoxious. Escalation with frustration is one thing, but jumping immediately to veiled threats about beating someone with a baseball bat is over the top.

  23. 1) In the United States we have millions of foreigners visit our national parks along with our citizens and we don't fleece them with exorbitant fees. Sure, the parks are subsidized by taxes, and I don't mind that at all - even if it pays for us to haul ash from fire pits for visiting Canucks. 2) I believe in limited government, but if anything that limit includes taking care of national resources, including the national parks. 3) Parks should be managed, but singling out fires as some kind of "blight" or practice to be eliminated is ridiculous. I don't buy that that is the case anyways. It's just a way to fleece visitors. Take fishing instead if you will. The fee is $10/day for a fishing permit. Is that a blight too? Do you need to haul in wood and haul out ash (which should be covered by the price of the campsite in the first place, BTW). No, the fact is lots of folks who visit love to fish, and they want to fish in a place like Banff, surrounded by beauty. Not my cup of tea but hey. The park charges $10/day because they can - to make money. Well, not everything should be a maximize-profit for business. The fact that Parks in Canada is such a business is sad.
  24. A favorite Canadian past-time!
