  1. it's a good idea to pack your sleeping bag in a plastic bag. Ditto for spare clothes.
  2. Heh. My mother was out shopping with my sister (age 4). My sister didn't want to leave the store so she grabbed onto the rack and started yelling at the top of her lungs "YOU ARE NOT MY MOMMY! I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO GO WITH YOU! YOU ARE NOT MY MOMMY!" My mother has said she was never so embarassed before or sense. Oh that is BRILLIANT!! BAWAHAHAHAHA...so, is she running a company by now??? HAHAHAHA When I was a kid I drove my mother nuts. She'd chase me outside with a wooden spoon (with a hole to raise a welt) in hand. I'd climb a tree - 50 feet or so. Then she'd get a garden hose and try to spray me, and I'd yell at the top of my lungs "Child Abuse! Child Abuse!" and yell our address.
  3. I look at the solos from a player's perspective, and yes, for me Metallica has some really good shit because it is memorable to listen to and fun to play. I prefer the melodic stuff to pure technical shredding. I agree on the Surfing with the Alien, although my favorite songs to play are "Crushing Day" and "Midnight". Midnight is simply a masterpiece.
  4. no shit. I was cranking up the amp and doing Master of Puppets and And Justice for All just the day before yesterday in fact...
  5. you know, most of the time i think my kids are pretty tough and selfreliant...it just takes something like this and you really understand that despite how capable they are, they are still very very helpless in a lot of ways... you must have been sick with fear and dread... I'd compare the feeling with how I think I'd feel if I was 4 pitches up a remote route with no walk-off, setting up a rappel, and dropping my only rope.
  6. You guys make we want to dig up Wired...
  7. I got to get me a helmet. my kids have helmets. I don't... yet. Gotta get one now that they drag me onto scary ass terrain.
  8. My own! got a link to a recording?
  9. lost my (then) 6 year old at Stevens last year. It was our "last run" and the kids wanted to go down the terrain/trees halfway down "Hoot and Holler". Somehow he got behind us, and we popped out on the run above Daisy. We waited and waited. He never showed and we figured he must have skied down. We called to him. No answer. We skied down - and he wasn't there. The lifts were closed, and it was dusk. We called the ski patrol. They found him sitting on the trail crying, with a bloody nose. He says a snowboarder knocked him over. Lucky for the snowboarder I didn't see that...
  10. so, what are your 10 favorite solos to *play*. Does "Stairway to Heaven" top that list? Gotta admit, I love playing Metallica - rhythms and solos.
  11. he cracks me up. the guy is so angry.
  12. Kiss totally sucks ass. No musicality. Forgetable "music". Rock all night and party everyday? How about learn to write a song and play your instruments.
  13. Who? Kirk? He seems like a nice guy. Lars is an annoying a-hole.
  14. Agreed on Ace, not on Kirk. Although every solo on Kill Em All is the same cliche's over and over again. Mustaine, OTOH has some great solos. "These Boots", for example.
  15. BTW, Eddie was a big Clapton fan - learned every solo of his by heart. He mailed Clapton a demo of his songs for VH1, and Clapton was not impressed (technical playing != "feel" for a blues man). And Beck kicks ass.
  16. there was a Beck near the bottom the man was a master of perfect note-bending.
  17. I didn't see anything from Schenker either. Rock Bottom, Love to Love, Try Me.... something belongs up there.
  18. I didn't see either solo from La Grange, or Tush. They are high on my list, as is the outro solo on "Gimme all Your Lovin". Neal Schon has some tasty solos - if you can separate them from the 80's glitz rock. Stone in Love, something off Infinity.
  19. Are you high? Its one of the greatest solo's of ALL time. The solo for Since I've Been Loving You is much much greater.
  20. Lame. The solo to Stairway to Heaven is not great. Neither is Freebird. I'd probably keep "Crossroads", but scratch my head at the others there in the top 10.
  21. you babble incoherently and live in a world of addled speculation brain damage is to blame
  22. The USS Cole incident was a terrorist attack by radical islamists. Stuff your black helicopter conspiracy theories, you kook.
  23. LOL. Yeah, I climbed that for the first time a few weeks after I had led Ingalls (S ridge). I kept thinking "this is 5.4? WTF."
  24. spend less than you earn dumbass.
