  4. I was sure it was an alligator
  5. I have BW excellence 8.6s. These are one of the few edge rated half ropes. Supposedly they are good for one sharp edge fall, but not two. I am not sure if this is the single rope sharp edge test, or an additional double rope test. The important consideration is the fall factor. A factor 1.78 fall is a hard fall (factor two is max). I dont think most folks make a habit of taking falls anywhere near this hard on a regular basis. A 20 footer 40 ft up a route is only a factor 0.5 fall by comparison. Unlike the test, real ropes will likely have significant time between falls where the polymer molecules can relax to a less elongated state. In practice ropes should take considerably more falls (even decent whippers) than the test suggests. I would imagine the test is pretty conservative by design.
  6. go on a diet until you weigh 55 kg. Start using your 8.? rope as a single. Take only factor 1.78 falls. When you reach n-1 falls, retire the rope (where n is the rated number of falls). Or.... Just use common sense like everybody else that uses half ropes.
  7. I have always thought that would be an awesome way to take a trip. Let us know what else you find out. Is that photo Lk. Powell?
  8. Baker got 22" last night and everything is closed except Ch 7. This is crazy how much snow we are getting.
  9. Olyclimber is god. It is no wonder his intials are OC, just like me other favorite deity.
  10. I am watching the X games and thought I'd rant. I know its been around a while now, but freestyle motocross has to be the most boring "extreme" sport ever. It makes figure skating seem exciting. There is one trick, a back flip. Every single person does it. The only difference is how far you stretch your arm or where you move your leg. Jerking off in the middle of the flip would probably be the most exciting trick of the year to these douchebags. That is how lame this sport is. The trick never changes. I cant beleive this "sport" is still around. Watching the old Crusty Demons of Dirt videos was cool, but these stupid best trick contests seem to eliminate about 99% of what could possibly make motocross cool.
  11. Alpental was awesome. I90 closure must have detered a lot of folks. Snow conditions were as good as I ever remember up there.
  12. This is insane, but how is it any different than jumping off the same cliff in sneakers or any other mode of transportation. More of a daredevil stunt than a display of skill IMO. The most impressive part of it is the patience and intelligence to wait for adequate conditions.
  13. cut and paste the whole line. It is in french, so you need to translate probably. Sounds like it may be a battery issue. Hopefully it is nothing tragic. His story in Alpinist is amazing.
  14. I saw it at feathered friends last night. It definitely looks like a well layed out book. The banks lake climbing looks really really fun. I had no idea the area would look like that.
  15. Snowlerblades offer the poosibility for entire mountain ranges of first frozen fruit boot descents.
  16. Bruce Cockburn Tillicum middle school in bellevue had a principal Jack Hoffman IIRC
  17. I dont understand. So you are supposed to pay for music?
  18. This thread is like an episode of the Surreal Life. Celebs everywhere.
  19. Their cams are probably the worst current generation cams I have used. Narrow, uncomfortable, springs too stiff.
  20. While I dont make a habbit of double clipping, intuitively it seems fairly unlikely that both ropes would be played out so evenly that the fall force would ever reach the theoetical 2X single rope limit. I would imagine that typically one rope still handles much of the initial deceleration.
  21. I think living in Pullman has given Kurt a warped perception of reasonable weekend drive times.
  22. Whenever I check it always seems to say it will be cold in 4-5 days, but it never happens
  23. A comparison of burninatability of east vs west coast peasants
