I am a little confused at to what you are saying here...Sounds like the same conflicted message that I feel might be the case. I have read that past experience is not necessarily predictive of future experience; but my own history seems to show a slow, progressive increased sensitivity to altitude.

Mid way through (where I got sick) was about 1,500-2000 ft. Heat does make me sick, but it was slightly cloudy and even had a little thundershower yesterday. I've had no alcohol for quite a while, so my system should be pretty clean (too much sugar maybe). You guys ask good questions, thanks for getting me thinking about these factors!

I see a doctor regularly and am fine as far as I know. Without a specific suggestion on what might be wrong or what to look for, there is no reason to go. The only time I get ill like this is at altitude, but maybe something else triggers it?

It's possible, but I don't think so. Safe Sex is an easy climb that doesn't require nerves of steel nor much physical conditioning. Any other thoughts or possibilities that come to mind?

I read that past altitude sickness experiences have no baring on future ones. I am starting to think that may not be true. The first time I ever experienced altitude sickness was about four years ago in Peru. Since then, I seem to get ill pretty easily. For example, yesterday I barfed halfway up Safe Sex. Not long ago, I barfed a couple pitches up SEWS. This never used to happen to me. Now it seems to all the time. I don't want to live on Diamox, but I am starting to think that I'll have to start taking it even for moderate gains in elevation. Is anyone else relating to this? Anyone find this happening to them too?

I complain about REI because they have consistantly disenfranchised the owners (members) and consolidated control in the board. The only way the owners (members) can get a canidate up for election to the BOD is by a writein campaign featuring 1% of active members (yes I actually received the canidate package). Then you have the possibility of being elected. There can only be 2 writein canidates on the BOD, all other members are nominated by the CEO and BOD. Ergo the owners can effect minimal change over the company they own - the managers control and run the company at their whim. Because the managers have chosen to do some decent things (green power, etc.) doesn't change the cronycapitalism way they now function. Cronyism's ultimately bad for us in both the small and large sense. Sorry if that make me selfrighteous Would I like REI to operate differently? Yes, but I'd like even more to have a say in their operation!
