  1. Can I be your first sponsor? I'll give you Ten Bucks and an old sleeping bag... (that I used to screw my ex-gilrrfreind in on car camping trips... Imagine the memories in that bag!!) Great idea--he can be "Team Speedbag"
  2. I lost a couple of pounds. But it is probably just water weight. I been trying to eat more grains--filling and not so many calories.
  3. Seahawk, it is getting frustrating to read when you bring up short points and then dismiss the conversation that comes out of it by calling the other person a "dem" and not dealing with the very topic brought up. You are not strengthening your case by continually doing this. The SOX question was an interesting thing to bring up--I am curious to hear what you were thinking specifically when mentioning this. I have worked in IS in a bank and had to deal with a great deal of SOX regulations. I am curious to find out what you think SOX is accomplishing.

the religious and economic theories as the impetus for invasion need not be mutually exclusive. One may dominate in one situation and the other in a different situation.
  5. He also could give one mean blow job I'll bet.

I have never actually met a man in person who would prefer an educated, funny, well-traveled, accomplished woman in her thirties over a hottie under 25. Ever. But at least this one comes equiped with a bunch of cutting implements. Of course, if I were a man I wouldn't take this as a good thing...

She actually looks cute in that photo. Where are her boobs though? Maybe they'll make an appearance after puberty.

I'd agree that economic considerations are very, very important. But I wouldn't be surprised if the relgious/cultural tensions had a suspiciously close line. IOW: I'd be willing to wager that folks who are "more like us" we were more willing to bargain with rather than invade. Of course there will be exceptions--Nazi Germany comes to mind (of course, we did loan them money for WWI reparations payments, so we have a history of cooperating with Germany)

The post above is not the parallels, it is the answer to your previous post. I couldn't quote it, don't know why. Sorry for any confusion.

I think it is obvious our gov't doesn't mention S.A. b/c of our ties with them. This is a great example of where the religious overtones and the economic realities overlap and influence each other. I don't think the religious aspect is as powerful of an argument in the Iraq issue b/c Iraq (as well as Iran pre-Shaw) were much more advanced socially than a number of the other Muslim countries. I don't know for sure, but I would be interested to find out at what point of fundamentalism we have interceeded or outright attached Middle East countries. In other words, when a country seems more moderate, are we less likely to have attacked them? And when fundamentalism goes through the country (as well as through our county I'll wager) are we more likely to invade?

I am reading a book right now called "Crusaders and Pragmatists" that goes through presidents from Wilson on and talks about how their religious views impacted what they created/supported in their presidencies. I would recommend this book, especially the chapter on Wilson. There were so many parallels between Wilson and Bush that it was creepy. (PS the book was written pre-Bush)

Hey hey, I don't refuse that oil has anything to do with it. I think it is a multi faceted problem but that religion/culture takes primacy in the issue. Like most people, I am able to look at multiple variables and then decide which one I think is most weighty without dismissing the others. And in my opinion, the meat of this idea is coming from the truth. There isn't a leaflet being handed out telling people to think this, rather, it is a plausible conclusion to arrive at after reading a fair amount of history.

  15. Last night I watched the Philharmonic play one of my favorites: the Symphonie Fantastique. To watch these people is so humbling--everything is so precise. Except the ophicleide player who flubbed a note during his solo. I felt bad for him... But musicians are absolutely incredible people whom I'll always admire.

Far Beyond Driven. And you can't not love the album art.
  25. A lot of people think this guy is lying. Doesn't take an investigative genius to realize the story doesn't add up. However, the family has opted not to go public with whatever may have happened; and their right to privacy is supreme. It is too bad search and rescue had to waste their time and their gas money, but they know that is part of the many risks that come with the job. I am glad no S&R were injured in the effort, and glad that jogger guy came to his senses and made it home safely.
