Very Cool. Any other pics? I'd like to climb this one sometime, if only just to know the descent route for other climbs. I've heard it's a good climb in its own right, though. -Chad

Mountaineering in Peru/ Huaraz

Hey, how about an update? -
It's from June 30th, but this might help. http://www.shastaavalanche.org/reports.htm

Thanks for the report. I hope to get a chance to spend some time up on that side of the mountain this year. Thanks for posting the pics! Also, what was the bergschrund crossing like? I'm excited to know that there's a campsite at 10k; the highest in Mike G's guidebook is 9200 on the nunatak.

Good for you guys for holding it together, and making it out okay. Hope your climbing partner heals real quick. I know that this surely isn't a priority, but if you get a chance, post some pics (no, not of the wound!) I'm sure you had some beautiful scenery! Again, good job in making it out okay, and thanks for posting the report.

Haha, cute. Looks like me and my big sis when we were that age. She was always makin' me cry.

And thus we get to the unextreme part . Even the lyrics are fitting for this thread. That looks a lot like the '90 Golf I used to have (RIP). Were you able to swap the brakes too? Yeah, sure was. It's a full, 5-lug suspension conversion. It was a fun project, but I won't do it again anytime soon. Frankenjetta? Well, I never thought of....but makes sense

Well, here's the reason for my avatar...my unextreme hobby. 1991 VW Jetta, that's been infused with much mechanics from a wrecked 1992 VR6 Corrado. The engine/trans/suspension swap was completed over 8 months in a cold Michigan garage with nothing but a propane heater and liberal amounts of tequila and rum to help take the sting out of the frigid temps. Here's a slideshow, complete with soundtrack (Weezer- "In the Garage) that I compiled a while back. http://media.putfile.com/In-the-Garage-69

Very nice TR; sounds like Alex is kicking ass these days! I wonder if the summit register is somewhat hidden, or maybe buried in snow relatively late; seems funny that it doesn't see many signatures. Then again, lots of people don't feel the need to sign them I suppose... Good job, and thanks for the posting

Hey, Gary, question for you. Infranview has many filters, for resizing, evidently. It lists many, from fastest to slowest. I chose the slowest, because I figured it might do the best job with the resizing. Is there any truth to this, or is it simply just that...a faster vs. slower filter, without any quality repercussions? I'm such a nerd.

Very cool. I can't believe it's been a whole year since Oleg and I were up on that route. It was a neat route, but I'm glad to have it off the list. Funny how I drooled over it for years, when I still lived in Michigan; I figured it be a route of a lifetime. Three years later, after living here, I just did it as an afterthought, on a free weekend. Pardon my rambling, not enough coffee yet. Kudos to you guys for getting it done; looks like you had a good time
-
Think about it this way, Bill...you could be stuck here in PDX.
-
I'm not sure...I've never been on the Wy'east route, but the drainage below, on 017 and 028, look like the White River on the SE side of Hood. Then again, most drainages off volcanoes probably look like that...
