    The Big Drop

Just finished this awesome book: Most people know John Long as a climbing writer, but this is a collection of 32 of the best "big wave" surfing stories. These guys are FUCKING NUTS!!, and the reading is a wild ride, too.
  3. I am just starting to learn about this, and sick of paying ConCast $50.00 a month Any info is appreciated.
  4. Check out this attentive belayer: (note rope in water)
  5. That is better - I don't have photoshop , but I'll check my crappy little program for contrast. Thanks Thanks for all the votes!! Next time you see Todd at Feathered Friends, tell him you saw him in a photo contest. See if he squirms

    going insane

I have made a steady progression from V6 to V1 in the last 7 years. I'm pretty psyched about that.
  7. Nice Spot! I just never get tired of Mountie Humor
  8. "...and then I was pasted like a gecko on these two horrible slopers, staring down a 4-foot toprope fall"
  9. Try and find housing on the WestSide, if you can. That's the coolest part of town to live, IMHO.

You don't know anger, you're Canadian. You want rage and anger? Give me a call. GregW: 1 Dru: 0 I totally understand where you are coming from here E and I don't hold it against you at all. Hey, I got that nice Steely Dan box set I found on the freeway just waiting for you to come and pick up
  12. Flew into San Jose on the Friday the Thirteenth, delays and layovers costing us an additional 5-1/2 hours to a 7-1/2 hour flight. We arrived at the Best Western I had made blind reservations at (thinking BW would be good anywhere. Wrong.) around 11:45 PM, totally frazzled and in a really sketchy part of San Jose. We had no beer. I had spotted a bar about a block away, and convinced my travelling companion, Steve, to walk the 1 block gauntlet and get a 6-pack. We were about 1/2 block into the venture when a dirty bedraggled woman approached us, saying" "Sex? Mota?" I said no loudly and ignored her, but Steve had to take a closer look. She followed us to the bar, pleading to Steve the whole time. I proceeded to order us a six-pack, and as Steve sat on the barstool, the woman walked up to him and grabbed his package He had to push her away to get her off him, then she just left. I paid and we went back and polished off most of the sixer, laughing about our welcome to Costa Rica. The next days was a harrowing 2-1/2 hour ride to the coast by public bus on mountain roads to Jaco, where we met a friend from Juneau. Then, getting the toolz together: , finding a place to stay on Hermosa Beach away from the tourists, a good seafood meal, and beer in a hammock: . Sessioned downtown brown and waves for the following two days in 90 degree weather and 68 degree water, fresh seafood, washed down with beer and great rum concoctions: . We met a polish woman who joined us, (Bob! Missing out with that ice climbing! ), and another friend from anchorage, and we had the crew together: . Together, we rented a 4X4, and spent 5 days hitting beaches along the North central coast. The water was cooler, and I soon shifted out of full-on surfer-mode and started doing more beachcombing, snorkeling (amazing colored fish), and afternoon beer-drinking. In Nosara we stayed at a place that had about 10 Howler Monkeys living in the trees around it. That was cool, except when they would howl at 5AM I got hit on by a 20-something surf instructor at that place one night drinking guaro late We then went south along the Nicoya peninsula, fairly remote where we found thisawesome surf that you had to drive through a river at low tide to get to. We stayed at a nice lodge up in a bluff overlooking a pristine horseshoe bay. Outside our room: Too bad, so sad. Only 8 days. Sunset on another great trip.

  14. Great advice, as long as you are following it and not holding the expectation that others will be like you. Because, invariably, they won't.
  15. I find myself highly motivated and fearless when I boulder on crack.
  16. I've always liked the stitch plate because of is durability and longevity over the atc (which has the thinner body), but they don't lock off so well. The Wild Country ADR has the advantages of both: thick body of the plate, and tubed up side for ATC-like lockoff. Works great, even on the nines. It's solid. Never used the Reverso, but I am sure I will be converted when I do...
  17. Whoever has my #1 of 200 copy of Husky Rock, please, please give it back. cover:
  18. There's a good bit of bouldering under the deception pass bridge on the park side of deception pass beach. Just West a bit. Decent traverse, and a overhanging v-slot that is fun. There's probably more.
