That sounds wonderful I went to Roaton , Hondoras for a scuba vacation. It was beautiful! The beaches were white sand, the weather was in the mid 80's, the diving was incredible. And the sunsets were amazing. I did my first night dive as well. I also fly to the main land on one of those "I don't know if we're going to make" planes and did a white water rafting trip. BIG BUGS down there. Ick

That seems to be the norm for gun owners from my experience, so the 1-per-capita statistic isn't surprising. I'd be more interested in the percentage of households with guns. again in my opinion questions are universal...answers are personal. What works for one person, may not work for another. Lets keep our minds open, shall we? Here we go again. I have to agree with you man! Two thumbs up. The true sacrifice of love grows even stronger when you have children. What is wrong with so many parents today - they think of themselves first.

In general I think living life without worrying about what others think is a good idea. But the reality is we do need friends and family in our lives to support us when the chips are down and help us deal with the shit life throws around. The flipside is they need us too. We're social creatures and like someone else said the rituals we have serve a purpose for the group, not necessarily the individuals.

No such action was intended. I was simply commenting on what you term the "greater good" and the fallacy thereof. This "greater good" you speak of is the justification that the power grabbers in this country use to increase the scope and realm of governmental control. "For the greater good" is what FDR used to turn the Interstate Commerce Clause on its head and pursue his socialistic ideas through the New Deal. The 'greater good' that I speak of has to do with sacrifices of yourself for others you love. It is not about "I" - it is about being selfLESS for your family and friends. How often do you sacrifice something for your child? For your family or friends? Does it not return to you when you give to others? That is the greater good I speak of! You can have your Ann Raynd philosophy and use it towards the ways of the world - but with families I don't believe it is 100% true. In large part, it can be applied to families and all relationships, since there is, as you purport, a return on your 'investment' in that relationship, gift, action, what have you. Selflessness is actually a misnomer as you use it. You are making investments in your relationships for ends of your own; this serves your 'self'. Your 'self' begins with your mind; you make choices via some decision-making process. Given that, it is not 'selfless'. 'Selflessness' is denial of your mind. I can understand your point and agree with part of it. But forgiveness and love are selfless acts. If you can do these two things after being hurt - it is selfless. Only when there are no expectations attached.
