  1. For the record I love the Clash. Although that kind of goes into punky-territory. If we're going to go there we get a whole new list. Suicidal Tendencies Minor Threat Black Flag Shit like that..
  2. Ahh!
  3. Good point. I'm glad I don't listen to commecial radio. I suppose if that's the only thing I could get I'd go nuts. Forutantely for me I stick to recordings, so I have choices. Nice troll, by the way! The Osmonds! Now they're the greatest.
  4. Dude, for real..FOGHAT? BOC? those guys from upstate New York? The greatest ever?? Come one now...Come on.. Come on....
  5. Dude, as long as people can gas up, it's not going to matter. When people can turn a house around for ~20K more than they bought it in a few months (even less in a lot of places), there won't be change. Things are going to have to get RRREAAALLY bad before most Americans wake up. Now give me my free money!!
  6. Kix, you're dating yourself severely. "I'm in you" Subtle! In what? In you!! Let's fuck baby! Ahh, the carefree AIDS free 70's!! Too bad I wasn't old enough to "enjoy" those times.
  7. Damn Seymore, that's bleak! Probably accurate, but damn bleak.
  8. DORKS!! DORKS!!!
  9. Titter!
  10. Question: Why did the president suspend the Prevailing Wage law (the Davis Bacon act) for workers involved in the post Katrina re-construction without explicitly stipulating that the offset in savings reduce the rebuiliding contracts by the amount saved? I mean if it's to "reduce the burden on taxpayers" like he claims, then why is that loophole left wide open for contractors to line their pockets with? Reeks of sneaky...
  11. Mods: Please delete the Abba photo!!!

  13. I have an old newspaper from Bend that I saved because it had the Smith Rock fire on the front page, and one of the columns in the back is from some Republican columnist bitching about how Democrats need to balance the budget. Seems like that Republican ideal went out the window. I can undertsand deficit spending for some things, but Defecit spending, tax cuts for the top 5%, an enormous transportation bill, a "war" that Mr Bush didn't include in his budget estimates, and a badly handled response to a very bad natural disaster, seems like maybe we need to think about where all this money is going to come from. I blame Congress too. (SCHWAKAH! is the sound that whip must make) But fuck, if they're just going to throw money at everything, throw some this way! I voted for a couple of those monkeys!
  14. Ahh, but this is not the case. Billy Cox had played off and on with Hendrix since his army days. Noel Redding always had an attitude problem with Hendrix, because he thought he was a better guitar player than him,(!!!) but Mitch Mitchell loved Hendrix and did everything he could to stay with him. If it weren't for his unfulfilled contrtactual obligation with PPX records, acquired by Capitol, Hendrix might have let Mitchell stick around. I agree that it is seemingly an easy judgement to come to that Hendrix was a solo act with just a backing band, but a closer look at the "facts" reveals more detail. A minor niggle, I know, but I think the only true solo acts are guys like Leo Kottke and Joe Pass, who have many, many solo recordings to bolster that claim. But they're not rock. And therefore they don't count in the rock thread. Oh, and for newer guys I think King Missile is pretty good, but a little cerebral. Definitely a limited appeal kind of thing going on with them newer(ish) guys that rock? The Black Crowes. Sometimes. And: ROCK AND ROOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
  15. True, Neil Young rocks. Paul Simon, the other hand, is the Anti rocker.
  16. I think the Beatles get WAAAAY too much credit. Sabbath rules as well.
  17. I don't know about the Deep purple...Some of it is embarrassing.."River Deep, Mountain High" and "Kentucky Woman" come to mind. NEIL DIAMOND?! Really?!...but otherwise yeah they're pretty good. The Stones do have some great stuff. Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed, and Beggars Banquet are my favorites.
  18. Mr. Monkey Man? Mr. I want a banana? Mr. Fuckface? Mr. Speech impediment? Mr. Imperial flyover? Mr. falls off bike? Mr. Love?
  19. You motherfuckers are hilarious. I like the Who on a good day. Madvillain isn't rock and roll. Although he's an absolute fucking genius. Worst band Ever? JETHRO TULL I guess that's why Toni Iomni played with them for only 2 months or so. BECAUSE THEY'RE WANKERS. ...Okay, on second thought, Chicago is far, far inferior to Tull.
  20. Was Led Zeppelin. Fucking rock stars, them. Plant-good harp player! Guy could scream. Page-Enough said. Bonzo-Hammer of the Gods. Jones-Fucking talented motherfucker. What couldn't he play? Led zeppelin I: Possibly the greatest 1st album ever. EVER! II: Excellent follow up, shit it even has that hobbit song for all you fucking robo-geeks out there. III: Fucking awesome. IV: EVERYONE knows the deal with this. Houses of the Holy: Okay. Not my favorite, but interesting. Physical Graffiti: Also a yes. What other band has this kind of track record? They fucking rocked. ROCK AND RROOOOOOOOLLL!!!!! EDIT: Link to excellent JP interview from 93 Jimmy Page in Guitar World
  21. I don't have any friends either, and I like it that way. People fucking suck.
  22. Tonight I'll be lifting a glass for Clarence Gatemouth Brown. RIP, guitar dude.

    Question

Being a Jew, and at one point considering becoming a Rabbi, I'm very, very familiar with how it works. It is indeed a big, huge no-no to destroy a synagouge. The thing is, this the first time in Israeli history that this has come up. Other settlement places set aside for prayer, but they were (and still are in some places) considered not a synagogue. We've been dispersed for thousands of years (hence the term diaspora Jew), so we've collectively had a lot of practice with temporary residency, from Mesopotamia to Spain to Austria Sorry, back to the synagogue thing. Anyway, the smarter people in government figure it's better to deal with the pain of losing a synagogue or 5 than it is to deal with the consequences of occupying Gaza any longer. It's not much, but it's a little, tiny bit of progress.
