Campsites open below the granite sidewalk- the wife and I trundled several large rocks from the road. Also, we removed the oil pan grabber at the first wash. Overall, both the Exfo and GGB spurs are in excellent condition. I'm sure the dome will be considerable dryer than a couple weeks ago. MH

Here's mine- 1x4 pine- lightweight, with lite strap so you don't slip out when inebriated/sleeping etc. I used heat shrink tube where ropes go through board for chafe protection. My ass has built in padding, so no extra needed:) MH

Anyone seen this one? Probably 12 feet high and in the middle of a trailer park in Snoho County. Off limits but cool looking! My apologies if this has been discussed before-

Trip: Clear Creek- The Comb - Over the Rainbow Date: 1/10/2010 Trip Report: A couple of reasonably dry days called for a shot at a bit of granite- While not the balmy t shirt day, Stephen, Matt P and I had a great time regardless. We warmed up with a little chainsaw work on the Exfo Dome approach road. The nice campsite at the base of the sidewalk is now reclaimed for the most part. While finishing cutting through the last offending alder, the saw came to a stuttering stop out of gas- Simultaneously, a mysterious beam of light shone over to the Comb, and we were on our way. The place dries quite rapidly even in January (disregard the "wet" look of the stone in places) ::. Blueberry hill from afar- Matt on P1- .10a Stephen bringing up the rear Matt coming up 2nd P (5.8)- I wonder what could possibly cause these giant knobs? Hmmmmm.... Triumphant The third pitch was looking a bit wet, so we bailed- Big old Red Cedar on the hike out- I think this is one of the largest in the valley, many years ago I measured approx 16' in diameter! Cool- We started right out of the boulders at the base. Unroped WI 2 for ~ 60M then roped up for nice 3/3+ steps with frozen pond belay ledges until the upper hanging valley. Great route just kept on coming! MH

Jeezus- what a fine cold spell. Ice climbing in DTown- I wonder if that thing has ever frozen completely; it's one of the largest multi teired waterfalls in WA. Great find Argus and David! MH

Trip: Lennox Mountain - Jokers and Prophets Date: 12/13/2009 Trip Report: Stephen P, Don H, and I took a nice trip to Lennox yesterday. Only a mile and 1/2 approach, but is rather brushy and lack of snow made the talus fields decidedly unfun. We all forgot cameras- sorry The central flow was in excellent condition, approximately 50-60 feet wide, and all WI2-3+ for 1800 feet to the top. Really fun stuff, some of the best and most continuous we have ever seen in WA. We began rapping the route (trees)as the sun went down. Within about 400 feet of the bottom, we had the absolute pleasure of getting the rope stuck, and Mr. Packard was the hero of the day sent up to free it. Luckily, our bootprints from the approach had been erased by 5" of new snow, and we spent many hours wandering aimlessly among the alders and talus. At last, we found some tributaries, and continued down until the Miller River drainage made itself apparent. Needless to say, my wife was less than pleased, as I casually mentioned the day before that it was likely I'd be home for dinner Great day out, 14 hours C:C Thanks Guys!!!! Hey Mountainsloth- nice work! That place is a treasure for long alpine ice. Those flows to the left of the cirque look as fat as I have ever seen them in a decade. February has always been pretty reliable, but DECEMBER Our second climb on the main face was direct up the middle, but at 2/3 height, we met up with a bare rock band and had to skirt the difficulties to climber's right, eventually meeting up with our original line, which we rapped. Again- excellent work- looks fun! M. Hanna

Many windfalls were chopped, road is driveable now all the way in to trailhead. Roadbed is intact, but has become quite rocky- high clearance vehicle AWD or 4WD is recommended. The giant log can be driven around, but we sawed nearly all the way thru the ~5 foot diameter log, (need larger saw). A bit more work on that one, and the road will be back to original shape in that section. We'll have at least a couple chainsaws, burke bars. I'm donating my old but venerable Blazer to moving big logs and rocks as needed too. A pick/shovels may be useful, and ratchet nippers are always in style- Hope to see you up there Shooting for this Sunday the 1st MH

Several folks are planning to reclaim as much Green Giant road access as possible next sunday- We'll be up there starting at about 8-9 am. Anyone who's been up there recently can attest to the need, any assistance would be highly appreciated! Mark Hanna

The climbing on the last pitches have a bit of vegetation, but it's 5.7- 5.8 on ok gear, reasonably easy route finding, and gets to a great little summit. The summit is one of my favorite camping spots in the Clear Creek. MH

Trip: Exfo Dome - Westward Ho Date: 10/4/2009 Trip Report: James and I took a nice trip to Blueberry Hill to climb Westward Ho! to the summit yesterday. We replaced 3 missing hangers and removed the copious tat from many 30 meter pro bolt non stations. Rather than leaving crap hanging all over the route, perhaps subsequent parties could bring a second rope and use the stations provided A great day in the fall on the dome- a bit cold in the am, but it became perfectly warm at 11. I am definitely up for some trail work- count me in. I've been meaning to do it for years up there. I have ample implements (say that fast 12 times) and a strong dislike of alder twigettes. MH

Hi all- I have had ther opportunity to view the failed hanger in question, and strongly believe it is aluminum alloy with an anodized clear coat. The product appears to be non-magnetic, very lightweight compared to steel or ss, and has exfoliating corrosion between layers that looks similar to some old Eiger biners that were part of an ancient belay rig on the diamond some years ago. Aluminum is very sacrificial to the steel bolt in the presence of water. I'll return the hanger to D this week. MH PS- I'm not a metallurgist, but work for one who provided a cursory inspection of the hanger and agreed lacking other testing information to the contrary. Mark Hanna
