  1. How many people really pester for more moderation with pm's? And are they so passive-aggressive that they need to pm rather than put it on the board? Hell, it's a computer BB and we've got avatars! IMO the most important need for moderation is on the rare occasion when physical threats have been made, or personal attacks go over the line. I think the topics stay close enough on track even with spray, and it's the humor that keeps me reading this daily rather than once a week or less. cc.com's free-wheeling atmosphere, where little is sacred, is what makes this place unique. Please don't let it turn into a dour old Alpine Boys Club.

    Whazzup E-Rock?

Okay, E, and opinions are like assholes.... and you are one for a day.
  3. I think you all should go get a room.

    Whazzup E-Rock?

Who pissed in your Post Toasties today? You're makin' it plain in every thread that you are having a Bad Hair.
  5. that's "anyway"
  6. iain, you are the honorary moderator for a day.
  7. good old DFA
  8. Dr Flash, you have tamed into a mere pup of your former self...
  9. erik, let this serve as my 'cut and paste.' I've vented, and I'll keep quiet until we hear more (which I hope is before we own Iraq). rob
  10. trask, why are you spraying Iraq crap on this thread? Go back to your playground over there...
  11. erik, the fact that you would characterize a thread that hasn't had input for days as 'a melee' tells me that you aren't looking at this without bias
  12. That's right, guys (excl trask) , I think so too. The reason this has gotten under my skin is that it's so anti-'free-market.' People want to talk about this issue. So why not let the thread run at its own pace? IMO, when you treat this group like a bunch of kids at a boarding school, you are going to turn most of them off, and they will just leave without sounding off (like customers do at a store). I don't want people to leave because they can't express an opinion.
  13. Apparently Dru is correct, and my post got the thread locked. Does anybody think this is as screwy as I do? I had a point to make. Maybe it had been made before, but my purpose was to smoke out some action, because I see this lack of progress as further proof that the thing was a hoax. I wasn't 'taunting,' and this isn't kindergarten. I was expressing a real sentiment about a real issue. I didn't start out with that opinion. Hell, I was high-fiving the achievement in the beginning---go back and look! I resent that Mattp decides what comments are germane, what aren't...and perhaps who he agrees or disagrees with. This doesn't have to do with climbing. It has to do with respecting other people. I think mattp needs to lighten up and not just a little bit. What difference would it make if there were five or even ten more pages of comments about the "speed record?" Is it taxing the server or something? Or is it a case of mattp getting carried away with editorial rights, or being hypersensitive about a particular thread? Has anybody stopped to think that when you lock threads that are popular, you are in effect discontinuing the very goods that drive interest here?
  14. Glad I'm not in yr class, Mr. Chaos.

    FEAR

Look for this guy to arrive, fashionably late
  16. I warn you suckas---mattp shut down the Rainier thread and I've had it up to here---ready to spray any minute!
  17. Dave, I wanna spray on your spelling of television in your autosig.
  18. Didn't people in India used to do this?
  19. If he's 20, that makes more sense than 16, IMO. My first "climbing" experience was messing around in the Tetons at age 17 while on a family vacation. I was out by myself, following trails upward and passing signs that indicated that I wasn't supposed to be there without a permit. It sure seemed fun...glad I wasn't killed by rockfall. Hell, I didn't even know what rockfall was.
  20. but you said that you would climb him, not WITH him, ski!
  21. do you really mean to say that you would climb him??
  22. I for one could not conceive of taking one of my kids up Everest or the like. While you want your kids to learn to live fully and not be totally risk-averse, it is also your job as a parent to set limits (as opposed to push limits) with your kids. I know from reading that Roskelley is conservative, but the mission itself is inherently dangerous. Those of you with kids can imagine how you would feel if you lost a child while climbing Everest. The fact that you would probably lose your spouse over it as well would be a sidebar. Go ahead, people, spray about how risk is a personal thing. I say it doesn't make sense.
