actually, a good 1/3 of all poultry AND eggs test positive for presence of salmonella.

Damn, that's what I thought you all would say. I have personally avoided online banking, etc., due to a gut distrust, but must admit I occasionally order outdoor gear, etc. online. But the banks are encouraging our business to make funds transfers online, etc.

I used to walk steel beams on bridgework during summers in college...no harness, no net, no nothing. It was the late 70s, and I guess the OSHA rules weren't in place yet for that. Anyway, like most things, it was scary as shit the first few days, but then didn't seem so bad.

I'm realizing that here at work we are emailing more and more data that we would want to keep secure...some supply purchasing, price quotes, etc. If we are using one of the big ISPs through a DSL line, how secure is that from being hacked? It's just a thought I had not pondered, since we aren't transmitting anything so sensitive as credit card info...and I'm not sure what the avg hacker could do with the info...

Two facts I know: 1) War is Hell. Caveman noted that many here would piss their pants in the face of real battle...in truth many actually shit their pants when first exposed. Bottom line is that chaos and confusion have always been part of it. Chaos and confusion have historically led to 'friendly' casualties. Stonewall Jackson was killed by his own men. 2) There is a never-ending stream of journalists who like lemmings are willing to throw themselves into high-risk circumstances, all for the chance at career glory. As sisu says "fuck with the bull, get the horn." I'll save my tears for the soldiers over there, not journalists.

It's not the big game hunting that's so much work...it's the dressing. I would say that if fern is really interested in killing and dressing game, then rabbit or squirrel is a better place to start. Rabbit is particularly easy to dress, and if you have a successful hunt, you ought to have two or three to practice dressing out. It's kinda like sailing...if you can learn to sail a small boat well, it's relatively easy to handle a big one.

whoops, I just realized that I didn't put in the "poll stop" to complete the poll...and unfortunately you cannot edit a poll. Maybe a mod can help. gator way too chewy froglegs but gig'em yrself (otherwise they probably were raised in Bangledesh) in Japan I once ate small sashimi mackerels. the heads and bones were arranged on the plate with the sashimi...and began to twitch.

I am acarnivore to the core. I'll kill what I eat, too, and can field dress about any animal.moderate meat eater. Beef, pork, chicken...the occasional venison meal's okay tooguilty meat eater. I enjoy chicken and beef but really don't like to think about where it comes from...vegetarian. I don't like the idea of killing animals and I do like to check out the braless hippy chicks at whole foods (or, I am a hippy chick who likes to check out the wierd guys with tats at whole foods)a PETA member. I think it's outrageous that we are teaching children to abuse fish with a hook and line...or the meanness perpetrated on trees, come to think of it.For you carnivores, what is the most exotic meal you've eaten? Rabbit is wonderful IMO, dove breasts sauteed in wine and butter are delectible. Horse is very good too...I wouldn't have chosen to eat it the first time, but once I tried it I found it delicious. Worst meat I've eaten was muskrat (fairly hungry situation...will starve next time).

I think I wrote once about accosting a woman twice to get off her goddamn cellphone after takeoff. I literally had to lean across the aisle and loudly tell her to "turn it off now!" Two weeks ago a middle-aged man took a call while the plane was on approach in Atlanta. Busiest airport in the country, and here's a fuckstick that knows better than everyone else about which safety rules to follow and which to ignore. Now I know that it is thought that there are no problems with cellphones in commercial aircraft. If that's the case, then the FAA ought to relax the rules on cellphones. The current situation, where individuals think they can break safety rules that potentially affect everyone else in the aircraft, is bogus and undermines the general authority of the flight crew...IMO.

#3 is what George Michaels was caught doing in that public loo.

Think about the shit kids today hear and see. It's incredible when you think of it. I mean, I grew up in a fairly unrestricted environment, but it's getting ridiculous. Example: Local pop radio station DJs are discussing the latest Paris Hilton video (that boney skank---who cares?). They are noting that in this one it's apparently girl-on-girl, complete with toys. Is the horse out of the barn? Am I being overly protective? I mean, after kids hit age 10 or 11 they can be expected to seek out info on everything. But why should 5 and 6-year-olds know any more than the most basic info about sex? Certainly they don't need to hear the details about kink. It's only natural that what they hear repeatedly will tend to represent to them what seems normal.

I see you over there tangling with those other boltlovers on Smithrock.com.

Heard a cut but couldn't ID the performer. The song was Taxi (take me to the other side of town). It sounded like Bobby Womack, but the only version I can find online is by Bryan Ferry. Right song, wrong performer. Anybody know their blues?

and how about his remake of that Elton hit "Don't Let Your Son Go Down on Me"

My old man used to rant "Religion isn't the opiate of the people---TV is!" The SOB wouldn't allow a TV in the house until I was 14. Now I'm glad my parents emphasized reading and withheld the TV. My rant is that TV has been surplanted by gameboys and playstations as the opiate of kids today. ...and look where it leads...to time-wasting on the internet! ...never mind.

edited IMO volunteering is something that one has to be inspired on one's own to do in order to be effective. Re: My kids' school volunteering, I admit to having a self-centered motive regarding my own kids' performance. Maybe along the way I can contribute to other kids' lives too, but right now I am determined to give my own kids the opportunities I had, without inconsistencies or failures of the school system dicking that up.
