  1. Yes, we are painfully aware that we have to pay to climb where you get to go for free. Free? Hardly. Registration is around $50 a year per sled, not to mention trailers. Whoopee! We pay (in season) $15 every damn time we want to go - unless you buy the "volcano pass" bs. But wait - you get a Snowpark permit FREE! with your $50 registration! Trailers are a motor vehicle fee. Bitch at the DMV First of all, I have and do pay the same fee you do when I "climb" MSH as well as my $50 to use my sled, which incidently I have not and wouldn't take on MSH for my own particular reasons. Secondly if I'm paying $50 for my registration and snowpark pass, how is that free? JoshK- your comparison is weak. They are both physicaly demanding in different ways. Machines may not have a place in the designated wilderness (something which there is plenty of in this state) but they do have a place in the alpine if good judgement is used. Some of you really need to be a bit more tolerant of other user groups. Nah...my comparison is fine. Any reasonably fit person can ride a snowmobile. It's an aside point from the actual argument, but I'm not gonna sit and watch somebody claim it as some sort of legitimate form of excercise. Have you actually ever been to morowitz meadows or whateer it's called? It's disgusting there after a weekend of snowmobile use.
  2. I'd be happy to join you on a long ride and I'd welcome you to see if you can hang for a nice 20 mile, 12k vertical day. We'll compare notes afterwards and see which one is physically demanding or not. Seriously tho, riding on forest roads, while annoying to everybody within 2 miles is a far cry from the alpine. machines have no place in the alpine, end of story.
  3. I guess I'll have to wait until somebody quotes Martlet to see what idiocy he came up with this time.
  4. Kinda hard to argue with this.... Well, I argued with it below since it wasn't true. Cracked, as Squid said, either get involved with the issue or quit throwing jabs at everybody and anybody. You're like that annoying kid in middle school that told two kids that the other guy was talking shit about him to try to start a fight.
  5. I read both of the linkes you posted originally. If you'll actually go back and read the thread you'll see that. Actually both links were the same thing when I clicked on them. Perhaps you have fixed it, I will go back and check. I do agree with him and what he stands for. You obviously think he's a liar. That's good for you. I think your president is a liar. Now I ask you this...what is worse, a lying filmmaker or a lying president?
  6. Yeah... really out for the people... raking in the deutch marks while trash talking his own people. I'd agree our populace doesn't know shit about what is happening outside of our country. Why do you think 9/11 was called a "wake-up call" Face it, if people in this country paid attention we wouldn't have W as president. Then again, maybe I *am* not giving us enough credit, after all, more people voted against him than for him. Are you really canadian? Most canadians I have met are on the right side of this issues...
  7. scott, you may want to present something other than a whole bunch of linkes from some dude's anti-moore website if anybody is to care.
  8. BWAHAHHA! That looks like a well respected peer-reviewed informational site if I've ever seen one!
  9. So you are arguing that even though the plant made missiles for 50 years and just recently Lockheed switched it's missile making factory to sell rockets for spy sattilites instead (we can't make new nuke missiles as part of the Start program) that it isn't a missile factory? Keep it comin...
  10. ...in 10 seconds... need any more? "The Truth: Lockheed Martin is the largest weapons-maker in the world. The Littleton facility has been manufacturing missiles, missile components, and other weapons systems for almost half a century. In the 50s, workers at the Littleton facility constructed the first Titan intercontinental ballistic missile, designed to unleash a nuclear warhead on the Soviet Union; in the mid-80s, they were partially assembling MX missiles, instruments for the minuteman ICBM, a space laser weapon called Zenith Star, and a Star Wars program known as Brilliant Pebbles. In the full, unedited interview I did with the Lockheed spokesman, he told me that Lockheed started building nuclear missiles in Littleton and "played a role in the development of Peacekeeper MX Missiles." As for what's currently manufactured in Littleton, McCollum told me, "They (the rockets sitting behind him) carry mainly very large national security satellites, some we can't talk about." (see him say it here) " Well, there goes that one. Keep it comin' indeed
  11. Umm, I think any sane person would rather have McCain as secretary of defense. What does Rumsfeld wanting less troops have anything to do with it? Frankly, that's just more evenidence of the fucked up war effort. They had to start pouring in more troops early one when it was evnident they had misplanned.
  12. I have no clue what Martlet said, but I'll assume it was idiotic and unconstructive. Don't worry guys, I'll be heading to the hills tomorrow afternoon for a few days. But I am curious to hear some people's opinions, particularly those you are republicans but can admit the fact that Bush is a danger to us all.
  13. You keep blabbing on about his lies in bowling for columbine? Please show an exact lie or shutup.
  14. Let us remember...Israel isn't the one who has started 3 wars against it's neighbors and vowed destruction of the jewish state. Israel has to worry about it's survival every day, where as the arab states don't have to worry about Israel suddeningly invading from all sides.
  15. Let's say for a minute that the republican party maintains control of both houses of congress this November. I think it will happen, personally. If Bush loses the election that leaves a democratic president and a republican congress, which, as we all know, leads to fairly little in the ways of significant contrevertial bills being passed. It wont lead to stricter gun control, or major tax hikes, or any of that. Given this, is it possible that any of you who are desperate enough to vote for Bush could simply say that you are willing to do what is best for the world and remove Bush from office? If I was given the choice been sacrificing a few of my beliefs and getting McCain in office or leaving the elction of to chance, I would select the McCain (or another moderate, intelligence republican not intent on ruining our standing in the world) in a heartbeat. Honestly, think about it. Most of my issues with domestic policy seem to pale in comparison to the harm another bush term could do to the planet and this country.
  16. Ryland, didn't you see this link that was posted? http://www.snopes.com/rumors/flight.htm
  17. It is good to see that hiker1 is responsible, but I think there is a large % of his fellow snowmobilers that are not. You drive vehicles and you need to be restricted to the snowed over forest roads. Snowmobiles have no more place in the alpine than a toyota truck does in a mt bachelor snowboard pipe.
  18. Ummm...Josh...he's been president of the United States for almost 4 years now. I think he's established a record we can use to evaluate him. LOL. Yes, of course, that was dumb. I was thinking of a pre-presedency senate or house voting record since obviously congress is the one that votes on all of the bills.
  19. Oh, I completely agree that the fact that he is Jewish didn't have anything to do with him being the one who got murdered, but it still would have been worth point out, I believe.
  20. Opinions change, situations change, and votes change. Expecting somebody to maintain a completely consistent voting record is idiotic. And as somebody else pointed out the major reason for voting against bills is often to vote against riders and other stupid crap the opposing party slaps on to dillute or make the bill unpalatable. I suppose we can't compare his record to GWB since GWB esentially came into the presidency with no acutal experience aside from having the govenorship of texas handed to him thanks to connections, political ties and family name.
  21. Wow, I certainly wasn't aware he was Jewish. I agree it's either bad or biased reporting. But way, I thought only good christians went and helped people in need?
  22. I just got through a unit in my geo class about the heat blanace on earth. It's amazing how much heating re-radiation (from cloud cover) provides. Of course cloud reflection increases albdeo (the % of radiant enregy reflected back by a surface) so I am not sure which one outweighs the other one??? My guess is shortwave radiation (like UV) passes through the clouds much more readily than re-radiated longwave radiation (like infared) can pass back out.
  23. Has anybody added a hydration sleave to a pack? Yes, I realize one is not nescessary, but it makes it nice to keep a bladder upright and stationary while loading and unloading other stuff. If you have, where can you get the nylon, etc to make it?
  24. Again, please give an example where he doesn't illustrate the truth. Yes, he is about the put-down, just like every other special interest group running negative ads.
