whatever. i am still not sure what i did that was wrong. perhaps you could clear it up for me?
-
hey AK, you should get laid more often. it should help you relax a little.
-
back to the same drivel (collectivist, etc ...) wanting to do something about landmines maiming populations for decades after conflicts has nothing to do with 'collectivism', but don't let it bother you. (i know it won't) we have 10 dogs that eat meat. let's only consider individual behavior and ignore that they are all carnivores?
-
whoa there, people, you heard here first. according to goat, there is no relationship between governements and the policies they follow. brilliant.
-
typical jingoism. i talk about our wasting resources while others are starving, and you reply about socialism and private property. it's either your are stuck in some time warp or you don't want to address that our ruling the world for our sole benefit is not making many friends. you'd rather act like it? of course it includes me, this is my world as well. yet it does not mean i have to condone it. anyhow having contradictions does not mean one has to shut up (and no, i don't drive to the corner store for a six pack) oh you do, huh? of course we are all morons, goat. a handfull of rogue nations and the US are systematically against treaties addressing crimes against humanties, landmines and unexploded ordinance that maim 1000's every year, doing something about climate warming as recommended by the immense majority of scientists, etc .... and it's all a coincidence.
-
you seem poorly informed. we don't usually stop at cutting aid .... remember: 'you are with us or against us" .... there is no middle ground here. right goat, we are all morons, we all believe that we are just giving'em freebies
-
there are plenty of non-western nations signing said treaties. anyhow i don't understand your point. i was only saying that being aligned with the like of n.korea, iran, syria, israel on issues such as landmines, crimes against humanities, disarmaments, etc ... was symptomatic.
-
of course, we are entitled driving to the corner store to pick up a six pack while others don't have basic amenities. it's our due, we are the chosen people. actually, fairness is not even part of our language. nevermind those that don't want us doing the lifting at all personally i find the 'fine' company we keep in not signing said treaties much more telling .... (i.e. every single rogue nation we spend so much time declaring evil)
-
i am bracing for your 'fair and factual' analysis nevermind that a list of japanese shortcomings (notably in terms of ingerence in other nations affairs) would not compare in any ways with ours yeah right, it's their civilization, not ours as well and we had nothing to do with the failures you mentioned. give me a break!

disproportionate in terms of fraction of world population
-
the hollywood tripe only adds insult to injury. try 1) using a disproportionate amount of world resources and 2)having a military presence in 120 nations for more salient sources of resentment.
-
that must be one of those standards the rest of the world measure themselves against ....

as long as it is cheaper to buy new lumber than recycle whatever is being torn down while at the same time we witness deforestation of public land and non-compensated heavy impact on fisheries and such, i won't believe one word about how a fair market price supposedly comes about. these industries are heavily subsidized through land swaps, road building at public expense, etc ... , in canada and the US. it is obvious pricing does not account for the real cost of mining a resource that is essentially not renewable on a human time scale (considering the rate at which it has been depleted over the last century).

it was disorganized, there was plenty of parking for the size of the store, location was good, they had both crappy and good quality stuff for *cheap*. and it was so for the several decades they were in business .... so what changed? actually it did surprise me they folded and perhaps it shows that retail price is not the single best measure of the service provided. and where will you go to buy reasonable quality lumber when home depot has driven everyone else out of business? because they fit in better with the urban sprawl/car culture. these urbanization choices don't have to be made this way.
-
my bad then. but my point stands that rei management also works there in part because of the more humane environment. if wage was the only consideration, many would be gone in a heartbeat.
-
what does worst mean? the stuff was cheap and reasonable quality (often the best popular brand available) yeah right, comparison of sales volume among retailers is an adequate measure of quality of living so are you implying you buy your lumber at home depot? sorry but if 'utility' means more than consumption and income it is not apparent in your discourse. it' s not because people shop there that it represents a better model (there is more to life than maximizing profit).
-
no i don't but i have good friends who do (both for large and small outfits). seriously, i don't have the exact numbers but people should compare rei management wages to that of comparable retailers. as much as we may wish so, they don't operate in a vacuum.
-
this may be the case in absolute terms but they also earn significantly less than for equivalent corporate jobs. what do you suggest they do to prevent losing management to aggressive competitors?
-
although income is a big part of one's quality of life, it is hardly the only factor that controls it. equating the quality of one's living with how many goods one can afford is just plain silly (you may save money by eating fast food everyday but it can't be considered quality eating, be it because of the food itself or the quality of the experience). you may derisively comment on what you perceive as other's limited understanding of the economy, but your reducing one's way to betterment as decreasing out of pocket expenses by any means necessary is just plain simplistic or disingeneous. anyhow without getting into the social benefits of locally operated businesses, equating the take over of local retail by chains as progress is misleading: for example, don't tell me you don't miss Chubby and Tubby (including for cost), or that you'd rather purchase your lumber for projects that matter at home depot versus a local lumber outlet.

there is very little (if anything) to be learned from leading closely bolted lines over top-roping them. without wanting to sound elistist, if people can't lead a 5.6 slab pitch with bolts more than 5' apart, they are not ready to lead in the outdoors. they should second a while longer, in other words, follow the usual apprenticeship necessary to become a competent leader. apparently dave understands the objective standard for not bolting cracks, yet he fails to see one for how close bolts should be drilled. go figure that one out .... (a clue: said standards are provided by the history of the sport and the practices found in the community) by the way, your bolting climbs with natural protection at smith says a lot about your background and although i recognize that individuals can change, your rationalizations are just not convincing.

does quality of life mean anything to you?
