  17. Time to call SAR! (Just in case. )
  18. Um...yeah, total force is bigger, total point loading is not bigger... I guess that would depend what it was clipped to. Imagine the biner clipped to a bolt, so that the loading is only on the biner along the thickness of the hanger. I bet in a fall, the max local stress on the biner would be pretty high.
  19. Neutrinos make great nose rings.
  20. I could definitely "use an extra 50 or 100 grand". I've has an attorney send a cease&desist letter, and recieved a terse response. It's litigate, not negotiate. But litigation is a complicated decision, and what's right, or wrong, isn't the only contributing factor. The parent corporation of the offending company has annual revenues of $50 billion. Bringing a lawsuit could cost me $200,000, or more. What's the risk/benefit ratio? As my father told me, life is hard. Sending you a terse response is cheap for them. Big companies ignore patents and trademarks regularly when they know the intimidation factor is high or the cost of settling out of court is a small fraction of their profits. Take a cut of their money.

    Happy Anniversary

More importantly, today marked the three-year anniversary of the high-water mark for the Nasdaq Composite, when it peaked at 5,132.52 during the day and closed at a record 5,048.62 on March 10, 2000. The tech-driven index has plunged more than 70 percent since then and celebrated the day by declining 26.92 points, or 2.1 percent, to 1,278.37.
  22. From Today's Avalanche Report : Please note that many natural and human triggered avalanches were reported over the weekend, and quite a few skiers and snowboarders were very lucky to have survived both partial and total burials without serious injuries. With this in mind, it is not encouraging to know how many tempted fate by skiing and boarding steep chutes and bowls in the back country during a period of very unstable snow conditions, especially when more appropriate route selection could have minimized their exposure to avalanche releases. Both avalanche professionals and recreationists were caught and carried by slides that ranged in size from 1 to over 4 feet deep, with resultant slides traveling up to 2000 feet vertical.

  25. Actually, the Khamsin 62 weighs 4 lb 0 oz. I have one. Judicious use of scissors can reduce it further by removing the hip belt feature from the lid and cutting out the crampon patch. Too bad the side zipper cannot be removed as well.
