you know, most of the time i think my kids are pretty tough and selfreliant...it just takes something like this and you really understand that despite how capable they are, they are still very very helpless in a lot of ways... you must have been sick with fear and dread...

he was a little freaked out UNTIL he saw me and how distraught i was then he got really really upset. Alls well that ends well and stuff got smoothed over with icecream and hot chocolate... the little turkey zipped ahead from the dad that was watching him and his own kids (i had my other boy and his buddy on a different part)and thought they were ahead of him and blazed off down the hill. He thought they'd moved to another chair and so he went, loaded himself and went to another completely different section of the mountain from where he separated from his group. 5 year old logic!!!!! He was waiting at the top for us, and started crying. Some lady asked him what was up and skiied him down to the base and we got back together...

I'm not saying the teasing is okay. I do expect that when I buy a ticket and go to the zoo that the zoo is saying to me in no way can an animal get out and start mauling you. They knew the height of the enclosure was not up to standards. Hell next time I go to the zoo I packing heat then. When you go to the zoo there should be a .0001% chance of a dangerous animal escaping. This isn't the Movie "Into the wild" so, you want that pass and the booze or what?

I know you weren't being sarcastic. honestly, it might. But i don't think it should. The whole point is that the bridge should be designed properly in the first place, in which case the current load ratings and permitting policies are appropriate...if you have a design flaw, well, then its fokked and should be identified and fixed via some other mechanism. The real bummer is that this will take some heat off of the government to start fixing its infrastructure now before we really do have a big problem to deal with...

well...WSDOT loadrates bridges for MAIN MEMBERS only currently...not connections...so, when it issues a load limit or an overload permit, it covers only the main members... Philosophy in design is that the connection should be able to develop the member, not the load transmitted to it. So the above policy is sound in the sense that the members are a "load fuse". Of course, this assumes that the connection was designed properly.

My point was, even though the zoo has responsibility to keep that animal caged, the frickin' IDIOTS were being dumbasses...hell, they likely could've run into the opposite lane driving their car and killed that same family you referenced instead of the cat getting them. THE FUCKING IDIOT WAS STANDING ON THE GODDAMN RAILING...too bad the dumb ass didn't trip and fall into the enclosure, then the cat would've been justified and not put down and the gene pool would've just been enriched a little bit at the loss... oh yeah...almost forgot
