  1. Hard to compete with headlines like this: Deputy sheriff, father shot in face by 15 year old while responding to domestic disturbance, severe, possibly fatal neurological injuries.
  2. How about something in the Roger's Pass area? Mount Sir Donald, or Tupper, or something around the Illiciweat Neve area. Heh Dru is gone so he can't ring in with smug commentary. Actually your Sunshine/Cathedral idea isn't bad for avoiding the crowds. There won't be a soul up past McNeil Pt. 'cept for that guy that was never found on Cathedral of course....
  3. yeah the Eliot was in great shape a week ago. There is a bit of seasonal snow in places, but there was plenty to do. Boy is that glacier disappearing fast.

Rob as a former EMT I'm shocked! But really, if you see that scene and you are trained to respond it would be exceedingly difficult to watch out for that. I try to keep some fresh gloves in the glove compartment (imagine that!) along with a cpr mask. You can also get those cool little keychain ones but they can be hard to find if you don't want 100+ of them with your corp. logo on them They're called the CPR microkey and I'm really surprised they don't have them at REI. I remember that car vs. tri-met on the news!
  5. but hey sunshine might be good my guess is you might be bombarded by rockfall. I'm talking about t.v. sized stuff. maybe microwave size by this time?
  6. Cathedral Ridge is an abysmal climbing experience this time of year. The wind howls the dust blows the scree tumbles the climber bumbles the end (applause)
  7. I have yarded-in rope to catch leader falls too, but it usually seems more like about an arm's length, not the 3 meters or so discussed here. I guess I would be hesitant to suggest such a practice for people learning to belay (in this forum perhaps?) when there is enough to keep track of as is when you are starting out. On climbs that are at the leader's limit, a little slack seems nice to give you enough time to assure the leader is not fighting for rope at a desperate clip as they go out of view. Matt, since you have been belaying leaders on hard climbs longer than I have been alive I certainly yield to experience.
  8. I apologize, I was not clear. I didn't mean "reeling in" was specifically ridiculous. I meant it is ridiculous that climbers who have many years of experience are debating how to do the most fundamental of life-protecting climbing skills at this point in their careers.
  9. this reeling business is ridiculous.

Also helps to keep an eye on yourself and your friend as these scenes can effect you in wierd ways at wierd times, much later on. It is a common issue for people in mountain rescue who do body recoveries and don't have any form of emotional release, even though they never met the person. It's a strange sensation.

I would guess he was already dead when you saw him based on your description. It is difficult to come across those scenes w/o both medical training and a healthy dose of critical incident stress management. Even with paramedic-level training there is little you can do for these people w/o access to an ambulance, which barely would have enough to delay the inevitable on the trip to the ER.
  12. Some of the worst winter driving I have ever witnessed has been performed by Subaru Outback drivers.
  13. I just leave it on the kitchen floor after scraping. Gets on my feet Whatever you do, don't wear wool socks on my kitchen floor you might get a dislocated shoulder or something
  14. The Doctor will be on hand to personally sign any new copies of the guide you might have, crowd-control willing, of course.
  15. not sure on the number, but it's one of the ones closer to the road. good news to hear, thanks for the update. I'm sure they're watching that stuff carefully. Will be strange to check that place out after this all dies down. Basically both burns sound like they are running wild at the moment with little containment.
