  4. what's weird is that those grooves are on the narrow end of the biner (looks like a bd enduro?). Unusual to be hanging from a bolt at that end.
  5. The newer pole is almost too beefy. I leave it behind whenever possible but the ski pole deal can be a pain. Seems like another common complaint from older megamid users was the pole snapping from heavy snow. That would be a shitty wake-up in the middle of the night.
  6. amazing the amount of junk an innocent headsup post can generate
  7. It is frequently not an issue of money. There is currently no way to remove zebra mussels without totally trashing an ecosystem after introduction. Once established, they are a permanent resident. There is no record of any agency successfully dealing with them, and they have no natural predator/competition. Sucks when those in charge don't know what they are dealing with. If it helps, it should be stressed that this will cost PNW taxpayers millions to mitigate. This is not just a "tree-hugger" issue, by far.
  8. just be careful if you bring a dog thru the zigzag area unleashed. there have now been 3 (count 'em, 3) dog/owner "rescues" off that sharp switchback with the overlook descending into zigzag canyon. the EXACT same spot every time. Guess the thirsty dogs hear the water running down in the canyon and take off under the wood barricade on the old trail at that spot.
  9. what's up with the kilogram rating. what the hell does that mean?
  10. I worked on an EPA-funded project to research the spread of zebra mussels in US waterways and their effects on ecosystems. They are absolutely devastating. It would be REALLY BAD if they were introduced into the west coast waterways. Several of the great lakes are noticeably clearer due to the intense filtering ability of these guys, starving everything around of nutrients. So far they have proven unstoppable once introduced.
  11. Pete's run it, he should have some better info for you.
  12. I think the lowest point is Ramona Falls area, and the highest is just past Cooper Spur.
  13. If you are referring to the Timberline trail, yeah there wouldn't be any snow. It peaks at about 7300 and drops all the way down to 3200, and is about 40 miles long. Steve Boyer did it in 6 hours and change. Unbelievable!
  14. the "pro" in the name should clue you in on the only non-insane way to buy these biners
