  1. But you bleat so sweetly!
  2. Am I the first to break it to you Necro? Ummm, people are sheep. Right wing, left wing, doesn't matter. If you want to use this knowledge for your own purposes, you'll have to work on your charm and discretion. The leader in a flock of sheep is a bellwether, who leads by being inobvious, more of a subtle trendsetter than a bold leader. Standing out is suicide for a sheep, just makes you more obvious to a predator, so you have to lead without appearing to be in charge. Yeah yeah, you're a wolf, but that has it's own challenges: short lifespan, most males never get to breed, obsession with position in the pack. Its not a pretty picture either
  3. I'm not totally certain where Joe's Valley is in relation to Capitol Reef, but I know a splendid bouldering area near Torrey (actually near the next town to the west, forget it's name) that you're likely to have to yourself. Here's a pic: If you want to explore the option, let me know and I'll hook you up with my buddy Bob who found the place and he can give you more info. Have fun, I was down in Bishop last week, which was enjoyable, but as you mentioned, rather busy.
  4. Yeah, blocking streets won't win anyone over to your side, and it doesn't do anything to obstruct the war or foster discussion, or affect policy. It doesn't even get decent media coverage, since they only take pictures of the belly dancers and such. The bit about protesting at Ft Lewis when the troops return is just bullshit wishful thinking on your part. Necro's baby brains on the boots jive aside, most folks I know who are opposed to the war make a real clear distinction between the soldiers and those in charge. The troops gotta do what they're told to do, its the ones giving the orders that people are upset with. From what I hear, even the folks in the military think Rumsfeld and his band of civilian cronies are a bunch of arrogant ignorant bastards. People will not line up to spit on the returning troops (which did not happen as often as you think in the Vietnam era either) because that is not who they are angry with.
  5. I'd rule for the newly arrived team. If there was a rope in a pile at the base, then I'd ask surrounding people if they were going to climb it really soon. I don't think that a little folded card at the base that said "reserved" would cut it either. Want a route? Put a warm body on it.

    Stone Nudes

I only read it for the articles.

What are you talking about???? Sisu's trying to rap, get with the now sound homie.
  8. Okay, so it's a whillans sit harness rather than 2" tube, but that is a stuff sack, and I'm sure it's an oval biner.
  9. I'm right and you all are wrong. Here's another picture of the same chockstone. It even has a name: Kjeragbolten, and it is in Norway. Rock is a slightly deformed granite called Augen Gneiss. Here's a link to a hiking guide to reach the chockstone: Kjeragbolten: Walking to the Edge
  10. seems like i've seen a photo of that chockstone before, in some travel article about Norway, some very popular fiord. Not certain though.
  11. Huh, I that drawring, like soder (equals "soda"), came straight outta New Yawk. Fairweather, when I see you, remind me to tell you the joke about the nativity scene, its an accent thing that I just don't think would translate well to writing on the internet.
  12. Obsess much?

    we'll never know

Well, if Jon and Tim would only upgrade from that Commodore 64, why then sky would be the limit!
  14. For diy info, here's a link to Dawn Alguard's website with a compendium of other people's answers to this question (mostly from rec.climbing) Trigger Repair as well as a list of where to send out for repairs Trigger Repair Shops I've replaced wires on a bunch of old friends with great success. I did have to slightly drill out the old wire hole since the new cable was a wee bit bigger than the old.
  15. You must be referring to Bush, Rumsfeld, & Ashcroft, the maxis of evil.
  16. Because its a direct contradiction of your Churchill quote. If you embrace Kennan's position, then don't give me any of that horseshit about human rights and democracy, its really all about how to stay on top of the pile. Didn't someone earlier state that people don't hate the US for our values, but rather our failure to uphold them? We act for strategic advantage, but try to claim some moral high ground. Say what you mean or do what you say, you can't fool some of the people, errr, ummm we don't get fooled again.
  17. Well, better than coming from some biased news source. I run a small construction firm, but it would take an amazingly lucrative contract to get me to touch any project over there. Of course, they're probably not looking for residential remodel firms. Maybe I'll nab some of Bechtel's market share while they're distracted by big bucks in far away lands.
  18. I'm going climbing for a week, you can keep posting here and have my slot.
  19. Devils Club is good, cuz when that's gone all your left with is ferns.
  20. The Ashcroft solo was real, but here's a link to a manufactured Bush & Blair duet that's really touching. Bush & Blair Duet
  21. I find it particularly impressive that you're where you're at with an early October registration on this identity. DFA's meteoric rise in only seven months is also impressive, seems like he's always been here.
  22. Sorry, no link between Iraq and Al Quaida, or Afghanistan for that matter. The terrorist connection that is touted is that because he might have weapons, Saddam Hussein might sometime in the future give them to terrorists. He hasn't yet. Its kind of akin to castrating all males, because after all, we're all armed and its possible we might rape sometime. Saddam Hussein is a torturer, murderer, tyrant, and all around black hat. He is not however a terrorist.
  23. I dunno, maybe it was a Christian thing, along the lines of "hate the sin but love the sinner" as in, I love my country but I'm not so sure of the assholes in charge. Flag burning is probably not the way I'd choose to express that sentiment, but hey, it takes a lot of colors to make rainbow.
  24. Fairweather: Rachel Corrie was not in Israel as a part of any program at Evergreen, and was not currently enrolled at the school. I have no idea who her various faculty were, but her parents were instrumental in founding the Options program, an "alternative" elementary school (which Rachel attended as a child) that's a very popular part of the Olympia public school system. This suggests that her family is on the left end of the political spectrum (most of the people I know at that school are), but I don't actually know anything about their particular beliefs. I suspect her views & beliefs were not wholly shaped by a charismatic college professor, and the school is not implicated in her death. If Glacierdog were to die in Iraq, could Sisu (his former teacher) be held accountable? Here's a link to the offical statement from The Evergreen State College link I have other friends who were upset to have an anti-war candlelight vigil hijacked and converted into an anti-Israel psuedo memorial for Rachel by various elements, which was neither what my friends had signed on for, nor related to the current state of affairs with regards to the situation in Iraq. The array of folks interested in peace is a much broader swath of the population than those with a particular slant on the Israel/Palestine situation. In this case, my jewish lesbian couple friends, while saddened by the young woman's death, didn't feel it was relevant to the present situation. No doubt others will take this tragedy and try to mold it to suit their agenda, probably on the right as well as the left. She was an individual, not an icon. I'm sure I would find plenty to disagree with her about, but I don't believe she did anything to merit her death. Thanks for not getting into the Israel-Palestine business, its a terrible morass that I have very mixed feelings about, and I find Erik's description fairly apt. Peace in the middle east as a whole may well hinge on resolution of that conflict, but I won't pretend to have the answer. Both sides have real grievances, and both sides are doing terrible things. I don't even think its as coherent as "sides" but rather bits and pieces, since both main ethnicities have their own divisions and splinterings. Anyway, peace Fairweather, I'm not mad, just tired and sad. You and I don't agree about politics, but I would be just as sad and horrified if you were beaten to death by union activists. That's not meant sarcastically by the way, but rather as an expression of humanitarian solidarity. Sleep well.
  25. I'm sure she knew the deal, and she was partisan, and she was certainly no saint. By your standards I should condemn the first US military casualty as a tool of hatred, because they certainly know the deal and are partisan. Except they've got guns and she had a bullhorn. That is not my position with regards to US troops by the way, but it is the flipside of your coin. She was a non violent protester, and I don't think having burned a drawing of an American flag while in a foreign country justifies her death, which is what I took (perhaps mistook) your post to suggest.
