as an aside, i've never understood the pejorative use of the term "white guilt" - like tvashie, my own ancestors were largely getting the shit kicked out of them in ireland and poland and other euro-joints in the 19th century, so my own culpability is not really the point. isn't a human being who's done something hideously wrong expected to feel guilt and shame? don't we consider them a monster if they don't and exile them if possible? why do the rules that apply to an individual not apply to society as a whole then?

if i could see the future i probably wouldn't be working anymore who knows? what bostonian knew in 1770 that the violent incident they'd just witnessed would result in a such a sea-change 5 years later? certainly many of those folks yelling in the street today would hope, as did the sons of liberty, for a radical change in the status quo. obviously, like the said sons, there's those among them willing to do more than just shout. playing the odds though, i imagine this incident will be just another drop in the ocean and that the Next Big Thing, as sam says, will yank the public's attention elsewhere, leaving hte whole thing to brew and fester and molder some more. if the incident does no more than encourage the cop body-camera craze, i suppose that's at least something positive.

on the contrary, i have great experience w/ them that lack expertise

is it possible to un-poison a well? our national original sin sure seems unshakeable. the founders may have been demi-gods, but they certainly never squared that circle.

'cuz it barely works already?

nice night at the beacon-wand, though didn't manage any climbing - frost fangs on everything, phantsmagorical faces, the frozen fingers of fell-fate - wandered down to the base but it was already long light - wicked wind for sure - recent big old rockfall down the east face, plenty of man-slayers done rampaged right through the trail - gave it a go and climbed up the first 50 feet of the corner but the Little Voice i've been ignoring in the back of my mind the past few flights done grew itself a pair and was yelling loud enough to garner the unwanted attention of the least frowsy of librarians - wandered about and let my hands warm and even gave it another go before turning around once again at the same point - just didnt' want it i guess - sure i could do it just didn't like the feel - settled for a circumnav and a walk up the trail in a huge gale suprised to arrive at the car in the early evening dark NOT to find a nasty ticket on my window - recently got a big old ticket from the new dumb fuck for climbing all day and getting back to the lot a few minutes after sunset - jesus christ on a cracker....

i've lost the premise of the original poster - what is the proper context for fergouson? post-racial america or post-post racial america? the boston massacre, rightly considered, probably wasn't spectacular evidence of england run amok, yet nonetheless it touched a nerve that was truly exposed and was thus an integral agent of all that followed after - likewise this poor sad dumb dead kid was likely in the wrong, but the cause of his banner-bearers is still not baseless

anybody interested in an austere late-afternoon/mostly moon-lit ascent tomorow?

nitpicking mayhap, but this grand jury had options to charge the guy not w/ murder but manslaughter the problem as i see it is that both sides can be right at the same time - this particuliar cop can be a good guy doing a good job while simultaneously the nation's law enforcement apparatus can be racist

from wikipedia: While all states currently have provisions for grand juries,[17] today approximately half of the states employ them[18] and twenty-two require their use, to varying extents. washington state is not listed among the 22

not that it matters to this conversation, but it is an interesting piece of historical trivia that the terms "dictator" and "tyrant" were originally political offices with, if not positive, at least neutral, connotations. legislative bodies are fond, throughout history and across cultures, of handing over power to singular individuals, generally as admission of the fact that dividing power results in nothing more than lethargy and inaction there are many more ciceros and catos in the future of man, as well as ceasers n' sullas

is it possible that nothing changes in american politics beyond beard styles?

the presidency seems to have a clear transformative effect on a man's convictions, and not always for bad - jefferson warped his and bought half the usa - lincoln his too and saved the union - i'm at a loss to see what cherished rights of yours have been shit on over the past 6 years though? my god, you HAVE to have health insurance now! surely the history books will sing of this unholy aggression for centuries to come the zapping folks w/ predators at all hours shit is admitedly quite disturbing - i have zero confidence that situation would be any more reasonable w/ conservatives at the helm. lbj, for all his warts, was still the better call than goldwater, no?

ole'rand seems ready to pitch the drug war over the side of the ship, so that's certainly a start - shit, even bill maher was downright cordial to him a few weeks ago - feller seems smart and can actually speak the fucking english language too - i'm sure your side could make a far worse choice, so therefore i'm sure they will as far as joe goes, be careful what you wish for.
-
yup. then yer shitbag - whoya got in mind?
-
i like think my comments are more cheeky than inane - it might just be a potatoe/potatoe/tomato/tomato thing though - wow, that analogy just dont' work in print silliness aside, ending the war on drugs would be a good step forward in forestalling the impression that the government and the police are the enemy of black communities - prostitution's another vice that probably could get normalized as well.

as an american i'm frankly confused on how to solve this problem - what can i blow up to make this all better?
