You're never going to convince the Campbell government of anything by shaming them into thinking about the long-term social benefit of something like the preservation of wilderness.
Yeah, the best argument here is not that the proposed application will infringe upon ski-mountaineers, but that it infringes upon someone already making money off the tenure, and that Mike's business could take a hit when ski mountaineers turn their attention to, say, Monarch when the Wadd area becomes known for hot-tubbing and sled-riding big rollers.

I hope I am right, but from a common sense point of view, I don't see how this operation is going to fly. You've got a helicopter parked on a yacht in an obscure inlet with jetskis and snowmobiles at the ready . . . riiiiggghhhht.

Road currently closed ~55km from Hozomeen. Most years you'd want a snowmobile . . .

I found the contrast between Coloradan and Slovenian discourse most entertaining: "Okay what you want me to say. We had good climbing. Oh, and the weather good . . . are you done with your spiritual movie now?

n the November issue of Chart Magazine, the outspoken Good aired some of his thoughts on the current state of music and, in the process, took a slight jab at his fellow countrymen. Discussing the re-emergence of old skool rock n’ roll (alternately known as ‘nu grunge,’ ‘post-Pearl Jam’ and ‘heavy beer rock’), he pretty much declared Nickelback as being creatively redundant. Ahem…
"It’s that whole false emotive complacent rock — bread rock. And the pathetic thing about it — and please, no offence to a lot of these people because I’m sure a lot of them are fantastic guys, and some of them I know—but if you line up Creed, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Nickelback and Default you’ve got the same band," Good protested.
"It’s that bad! I mean that bad! I can understand in the ’80s you had all kinds of new wave bands who sounded similar, but you could kinda tell them apart. But you can’t tell any of these bands apart. They fucking sound identical! Something’s wrong with music when you can turn on the radio and any of those songs can run in succession."
And what's with the Mule Voice? This contrived UhUHuhUhUhuHuHuh thing going on. That and the glaring lack of structure in most songs on the radio these days drives me nuts. You know why there are regular progressions in good music? Cos you brain likes it, it's like doing math without ever realizing it.

Hey, when in Rome . . .

For some strange reason people do not give Hood a much respect as a higher mountain. Beats the hell out of me why. I guess it's just natural selection.
Cascade Volcano Syndrome. If we were truly concerned about climber deaths on Hood we would be looking for a cure. I say get Bill and Melinda to set up a lab and do some trials with Taun Taun stem cells.

While I have no sympathy for her, she represents an interesting idea in that folks in these situations forgo having kids due to the financial strain.

Would be cool to be at Marble and see both ice climbers and rock climbers depending on which way you looked.

Crazy - it looks like JUNE in those pics.

I believe we can make it through the night.

The Edelweiss is rated for 14 falls at 9kn, the Beal only 5 at 4.2kn. Yeah, the Edelweiss is a little heavier, and it has a 7.6% elongation (versus 10% for the Beal), but this seems like a lopsided match-up.
This is because Beal actually tested the Rando rope on one strand given that it was designed only to be used as such --Eldelweiss used two stands. I was looking at the Beal deal the other day.

Don't forget about the Factory Outlet store in North Vancouver. I know you're in PDX, but it's worth keeping in mind if you got the dead bird disease. They got crap there at about 80% off. Some of it IS crap though, but I just picked up the full gamma bibs for $150 cdn ...

Yeah, floatation devices . . . May can be *primo* postholing conditions.

While I wait for elephantitis to grow my steep snow balls to the size of Don's, I will continue to carry pickets. I would like to think that my tools are just as good, but my layman's observations tell me they are too curvy and bendy to really distribute forces well. It's a lot easier to bail off a $15 piece of aluminium and maybe there's a lesson here . . .

So how was OJ? Pulpy?

Way to choose the "kittens eating icecream" birthday and not the "my anus is bleeding" birthday

Yeah, Don! So after reading this insanity this afternoon I felt so lazy sitting behind the desk that I decided to go for a big run up in the Seymour. Pulled some major ligament deal in my hip and one whole side of my body is wrecked. All your fault Don!!!!

You guys just weren't trying hard enough, that's all
yeah. we should have complained that we didn't sleep all night and then have driven home without even hiking, right J
Well, at least you saw the route. Oh no, wait . . . hehehe
The story on Hozomeen in winter
in North Cascades
Posted
In srping the N face of N peak has ~1/2 pitch of water ice (the Hourglass). Complete guess as to whether it gets filled over during the winter. Might make a ski descent a touch gripping . . . (it has crossed my mind)
