OK, that's a good point when it comes to the poor, but what about middle-class people? Why do they eat processed garbage, contributing to poor health and overweightness? I've had some pretty interesting conversations with vegans over meat eating vs. processed foods, of which many vegans eat a lot of.

I never thought I'd find myself in the position of defending REI....but..... 1.They do have most of their Brand stuff made in Asia. It is not made in children's prison camps. There's a thing called 'social compliance' that REI is using to bring their overseas factories into a realm of labor practices that most Americans find acceptable. Having said that, I still don't want to buy the stuff. 2. Marmot Brand manufactures in China as well. I bought a tent that was non-refundable, and then I looked at the tag and found that out.

So you, the taxpayers of Washington have consistently voted to lower your taxes, and now you bitch that the gov't is saving money by salting the roads! Perhaps you should have thought of that before you voted to lower your taxes. Washington isd now ranked 49th out of 50 states in per capita $ for roads.

But the great news about REI's rather unimpressive climbing department is that shops like Pro Mountain Sports are still in business, while REI continues to provide crap for the masses. Just think if things were different!
