How do I put this.... I get inspired by silly things. I get inspired reading about John Gill, and the things he could do. He could do a one-arm pull-up from a doorjamb! I know it's silly, but after I read this, I was psyched! I started training! I can't describe the psyche that I felt about it, yet it was palpable, real! I really wanted to do this! Does anyone else share this psych about any little power tricks? Does anyone want to do a one-arm? Off a doorjamb? A one-arm campus move? Some crazy "power project" or anything along these lines? Anything!!!! Come On! Bring it ON!!!!

Is the invalidation of the cultural stereotypes his objective in writing this book? Just curious.... And why does he think smallpox and such developed in Eurasia, not here? Something to do with the domestication of animals? And what diseases did Native Americans suffer from, pre-european influence? Any way to know? Speaking of Native Americans, I'd really like to read some Sherman Alexie, the poetry and prose writer. (And now, screen-writer.)

Alpine Tom. I recently heard about Guns, Germs, and Steel. What is that about? You'd probly like Daniel Dennet's book, Darwin's Dangerous Idea. It deals with the real and possible implications of Darwinian theory; interesting stuff.

Jon Krakauer?

I really want to go to film school, yo. That is something I've been thinking about for a while. Too. I want to get a camera first, though. Or maybe not. I've been talking about that one for awhile. (The camera, that is.) So, to recap: first on the list, film school. Second, (maybe) a camera. Unless I reverse the order. #1. film school #2. camera Or: #1. camera #2. film school Either way, it works for me. Does anyone have an opinion on this? (The order of events.) -

Maybe he's a meter-maid, or an up-tight lawyer, or some other high-stress job-doer. Hrrrummmphhh. -

And acting. I really want to get into acting. I almost took a class last year, but didn't really have the time. To tell you the truth, I was a bit scared, too. It's kinda been a long-term dream of mine, so I pretty much owe it to myself to try. -

I want to climb trees again. Big trees. When I was a kid, I climbed trees all the time. My favorite thing was to climb way up high into tree-tops, and start swinging back and forth, back and forth. (I was 6.) After enough momentum, sure enough, the top would begin breaking, and I would get lowered gently to the ground. Well, it didn't always work this way. One time I found myself at the top of a fifteen foot sapling, and after getting it rocking enough, the entire top just snapped in one go. Damn. Down I came, to the ground, straight onto my back. It hurt. I remember looking over to my side, and there was a little pointy stump where another sapling had been cut down. Needless to say, if I had landed another foot in that direction, well, no sexual chocolate or Moondancing for you guys. I hobbled home, made a trip to the emergency room, and did refrain from climbing saplings for a while. (Our neighborhood had lots of short trees, as a memento to my awful exploits.) So tree-climbing it is then. My "other" passion. -

Quote by Matt Anderson: "Dru - "I want to ski" doesn't do it." WHAT is wrong with skiing? Skiing CAN be way harder than anything listed on this thread so far.... Wouldn't you agree that skiing down that couloir would be really hard? I don't know, but first time I ever went skiing, I broke a rib. I've never broken anything while climbing.... -

Lambone says: "Ice climbing is alot more like aid climbing than sport climbing." Exactly! That's why it's easier! Way easier! That was my point! And who knows about the access up at Mountain Home? (Is that ok to ask on this thread?) -

Also, does anyone know if the land up by the Mountain Home bouldering is private or not? There's some killer line on the right, just before you get to the main climbing area....you might have seen it, an over-hanging arete, incredible! But I've heard some of it is private property. Anyone know? -

Man, you're right about ice-climbing being easy, FOR THE MOST PART. Now don't get all ruffled, all you ice-climbers, but you basically always have something to hold on to, and YOU decide where to go, NOT like how bolts seem to always tell you where to go. I don't know though. Over-all, I generally prefer sport-routes, yet you can get me on some trad lines once in a while. By the way, no one really knows my gender. Plus, what would it matter anyways? -
From what I can deduce, MATT is a stalker and should NOT be given any personal information. At least according to Matt Anderson.... So DRU, near as I can tell, you don't like Jon Krakauer because you perceive him as "egotistical"? So I take it you will not be reading his next book, simply titled: ME.(Jon Krakauer.) "A moving novella, disguised as a tome, about the inner-life of an egotistical climber." By the way, Moondancing IS the glue that holds the universe together. Moondancing is the GUT. Stephen Hawkins, your search has come to an end!

Has anyone here actually KISSED Jon Krakauer? I never have....
-
I must go on record as saying I have NEVER shared a belay-stance with Jon Krakauer. Was he sexy? Norman Mailer is definitely NOT sexy. Who thinks Jon Krakauer is sexy?
-
Or should we talk about Norman Mailer instead?
-
Whereas Doug seems to feel that "Jon Krakauer" doesn't exist. He's just a manipulated perception, and shouldn't even be talked about. Hmmmm.... What do YOU think? Should we or should we not talk about Jon Krakauer? Well?
-
So lizard brain thinks there IS a reality, something objective that stands apart from our perception, and it's our perception that changes or distorts it. Whereas JBlakeley seems to feel that there is NO reality, just our perception, period. Hmmmmm.... the plot thickens....
-
Jon Krakauer is no.... Norman Mailer.
-
Who is the best writer of all time? I say.... NORMAN MAILER!!!!
-
Goldangit, who the heck likes Norman Mailer? Damnit, and do we climb mountains or do they climb us? ANSWER ME!!!! And Sisu Suomi: puhutko suomen-kielta? Terve suomalainen! Tykkaatko Norman Mailerista?
-
What the hell is "climbing", anyways? Seems kinda silly to me, and then to WRITE about it. God help us.
-
How about Norman Mailer. Do you guys and gals like Norman Mailer? Do you think he could have written a good climbing book? Is there such a thing as a "climbing" book? Do we climb mountains or do mountains climb us? Matt Anderson, what the hell do you think?
