  1. Seriously Carolyn, check out Barrabes.com. Half-price for a lot of stuff.
  2. Speaking of burly, Mt. Robson has an unrepeated route on it still, at 5.9 A2, no less. (Only a ten-hour drive from here!) The Stumps/Logan on the north face. I looked at it last summer while up there, and I for one have NO desire to repeat it... IT DOESN'T HAVE BOLTS BY MY FEET,HIPS, AND SHOULDER! Anyone here had thoughts about trying it? Unrepeated, and only ten hours away....5.9 A2.... The glory! DanielPatrickSmith. Sounds like you're feeling better. Cool.
  3. haireball. I think with hard and smart training, you can do it. I'm tall and lanky, so my predisposition for one-arms is non-existent, yet I've been able to do one, albeit with a lot of training. How useful is it? Well, it probably isn't, (Dave Graham can't do one) but it's kind of a neat trick. Gill's pretty amazing. He's in his sixties, and he claims to be able to still do a one-arm doorjamber. I bet a friend $20 that I could do a one-arm pinkie pull-up in six months. I started training, trying to hang off of webbing with my pinky. Well, I guess I pre-disposed myself to injury, 'cause the next time I went bouldering, I tore up that pinkie pretty good, and now six mo's later, it still sometimes hurts. I better start a little slower next time.
  4. YOU SHOULD ALSO TAKE YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF.
  5. quote: Originally posted by mikeadam: I know. I didn't think you were. Mike Hey mikeadam, I don't want to belabor the point, or make anyone uncomfortable, but he did bring it up, and since we are, collectively, a forum of individuals who more or less choose to hang out together, it seems like anything that's up could and should be brought up into the open, don't ya think? I would hope that people care more about each other than what kind of boots the other person wears, or whether to bolt or not to bolt, or whether sport-climbers are really way cooler than trad-climbers, or the other way around. I mean sure, these are cool and fun things to talk about, but they aren't the only things. And I was genuinely moved to inquire into his situation. I mean, this forum isn't really all that different than real life. It IS real life, in that we are human beings interacting. That is what a large part of life is all about. The fact that so many of us hang out here so much is a testament to that fact, I think. So I personally don't want to exclude any aspect. Am I wrong on this? Am I missing something? I do want to wish and pray, with utmost sincerety and compassion, for a complete healing and recovery for danielpatricksmith. My prayers are with you.
  6. Posted by trask: "Hey sexy cocoa- Even though you're a oddball headcase, you still write better than dru, who seems to think he's some kind of a high fuckin authority on prose. Go ahead dru, spray me with some of your killer wit, but whydoncha try being a bit less holier than thou; ya might even get an invite to the pub for a change. Spray on genious." Trask, I don't appreciated being used as a weapon of war in your personal struggles with DRU. If you have a problem with DRU, work it out with him; don't involve me. Now please apologize.
  7. I wasn't being a smart-ass; I was just worried about him.
  8. Does anyone know what's wrong with DanielPatrickSmith? And what's the longest anyone's ever spent trying to figure out one move? I've spent weeks...still trying to figure some out.
  9. Ahh Capt. Caveman, I know that feeling.... It fills your mind, your body... the suffering you've just gone through, soon to be replaced by the creamy rich taste of a Guinness, to be followed by the light giddy buzz.... along with a cigarette, if'n ya smoke.... AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!
  10. What the heck's wrong with you, danielpatricksmith? The flu?
  11. Alright alright sexy, I'll post a response. Just so you don't get lonely. It is a good thread, really. I have a climbing wall in my basement. It's adjustable, from 28 degrees overhanging, to almost horizontal. It's not really big (6' by 8') yet there are about 200+ holds on it. Well, there's one move on it (along with many others) that gets me super-psyched. There's a first-digit mono about halfway up the wall. I'll start with my left on a decent hold down low, reach up into the mono with my right, build my feet WAY up under me, left drop-knee, lock the right mono at my waist, and cross through with my left to a funky sloper. Damn, it's intense for me! i have to concentrate harder than with ANYTHING ELSE in my life! This gets me way psyched! That's all I can say! Maybe some people can't understand, I don't know? But boy it's a cool feeling to pull that hard, giving EVERYTHING you've got in that moment!
  12. What's Viper?
  13. How do I put this.... I get inspired by silly things. I get inspired reading about John Gill, and the things he could do. He could do a one-arm pull-up from a doorjamb! I know it's silly, but after I read this, I was psyched! I started training! I can't describe the psyche that I felt about it, yet it was palpable, real! I really wanted to do this! Does anyone else share this psych about any little power tricks? Does anyone want to do a one-arm? Off a doorjamb? A one-arm campus move? Some crazy "power project" or anything along these lines? Anything!!!! Come On! Bring it ON!!!!
  14. Is the invalidation of the cultural stereotypes his objective in writing this book? Just curious.... And why does he think smallpox and such developed in Eurasia, not here? Something to do with the domestication of animals? And what diseases did Native Americans suffer from, pre-european influence? Any way to know? Speaking of Native Americans, I'd really like to read some Sherman Alexie, the poetry and prose writer. (And now, screen-writer.)
  15. Alpine Tom. I recently heard about Guns, Germs, and Steel. What is that about? You'd probly like Daniel Dennet's book, Darwin's Dangerous Idea. It deals with the real and possible implications of Darwinian theory; interesting stuff.
  16. Jon Krakauer?
  17. A Path With Heart. Jack Kornfield.
  18. I really want to go to film school, yo. That is something I've been thinking about for a while. Too. I want to get a camera first, though. Or maybe not. I've been talking about that one for awhile. (The camera, that is.) So, to recap: first on the list, film school. Second, (maybe) a camera. Unless I reverse the order. #1. film school #2. camera Or: #1. camera #2. film school Either way, it works for me. Does anyone have an opinion on this? (The order of events.)
  19. Erwin. Yes, nice reminiscial flash-back. I think I might do that this week-end, by god! It has been years!
  20. Originally posted by Mike Adam: "Gee Matt, I didn't realize I was under some predefined constraints as to what I can post on your thread. Thanks for setting me straight and getting me back on target. And my name is Mike Adamson not mike adam." I felt the same way, Mike. He jumped all over me for posting a question. Maybe he's a meter-maid, or an up-tight lawyer, or some other high-stress job-doer. Hrrrummmphhh.
  21. And acting. I really want to get into acting. I almost took a class last year, but didn't really have the time. To tell you the truth, I was a bit scared, too. It's kinda been a long-term dream of mine, so I pretty much owe it to myself to try.
  22. I want to climb trees again. Big trees. When I was a kid, I climbed trees all the time. My favorite thing was to climb way up high into tree-tops, and start swinging back and forth, back and forth. (I was 6.) After enough momentum, sure enough, the top would begin breaking, and I would get lowered gently to the ground. Well, it didn't always work this way. One time I found myself at the top of a fifteen foot sapling, and after getting it rocking enough, the entire top just snapped in one go. Damn. Down I came, to the ground, straight onto my back. It hurt. I remember looking over to my side, and there was a little pointy stump where another sapling had been cut down. Needless to say, if I had landed another foot in that direction, well, no sexual chocolate or Moondancing for you guys. I hobbled home, made a trip to the emergency room, and did refrain from climbing saplings for a while. (Our neighborhood had lots of short trees, as a memento to my awful exploits.) So tree-climbing it is then. My "other" passion.
  23. Quote by Matt Anderson: "Dru - "I want to ski" doesn't do it." WHAT is wrong with skiing? Skiing CAN be way harder than anything listed on this thread so far.... Wouldn't you agree that skiing down that couloir would be really hard? I don't know, but first time I ever went skiing, I broke a rib. I've never broken anything while climbing....
  24. Lambone says: "Ice climbing is alot more like aid climbing than sport climbing." Exactly! That's why it's easier! Way easier! That was my point! And who knows about the access up at Mountain Home? (Is that ok to ask on this thread?)
  25. Also, does anyone know if the land up by the Mountain Home bouldering is private or not? There's some killer line on the right, just before you get to the main climbing area....you might have seen it, an over-hanging arete, incredible! But I've heard some of it is private property. Anyone know?
