i can't beleive no one has mentioned so far that if you look at a mastedon skull it looks like it has one giant eye socket (to accomodate the trunk) and that anthropologists have speculated that stone age humans may have found mastedon skulls and beleived the skulls to be those of one eyed giants.

computer users wanted to scan photographs for star dust text for the lazy: Astronomers want recruits to hunt for comet dust Last Updated Tue, 10 Jan 2006 18:23:39 EST CBC News If you have an eye for the minuscule and time to spare, astronomers want your help searching for grains of dust collected from the tail of a comet. During seven years in space, the bookcase-sized Stardust probe gathered samples of gas and dust from the shimmering tail of the comet Wild 2. The craft is scheduled to land in Utah on Jan. 15, the first time comet dust has been brought to Earth for analysis. On Tuesday, researchers said they need the public's help to find a needle in a haystack: an estimated 45 grains of dust in an expected 1.5 million microscopic images of the spacecraft's collector plate. Eagle-eyed volunteers worldwide will use a virtual microscope program to search the pictures for carrot-shaped tracks left by the dust grains. To be eligible to participate, you need to take a Web-based training course and pass a test of your searching ability. Each image will be examined at least four times, adding up to an assignment that would take at least 30,000 hours for one person to complete. Scientists hope the grains will contain pristine examples of the solar system's building blocks dating back nearly five billion years. *now he can actually do something productive*

i remember reading "the white spider" and being struck by his recounting how much nationalism played a part in the competetive aspects of mountaineering in europe in the 30's. it made me wonder a bit about the nazi thing, but i think in retrospect he was just a very frank and honest writer. i think it's wrong to label him a nazi when peripheral involvement was a product of the time for many germans and austrians. whatever he was or whatever he came from, what he became is the most important. if you must judge someone, judge them for how they created themselves rather than their national or ethnic origens. his journey through life was an extraordinary one.

i think beck is working on using his influence at city hall to get chuck norris to roundhouse kick a weather system up in alaska so it comes down here and cools things down. stay tuned.
-
i thought this thread was going to be about foot in mouth as a consequence of a brilliantly delivered roundhouse kick. darn.

my favorite pie is the bottom of chuck norris' boot. i am honored to receive one of his roundhouse kicks. but seriously, a pumpkin cheesecake of my own creation. i rarely make it because it's too fattening.

actually chuck norris is in turn based on a character created by akira kurosawa: but then again there's no comparison with the original

a once tried to eat chuck norris' boot the the boot roundhouse kicked him while chuck norris wasn't even there.

sucubus was also a character on south park that chef falls in love with, but who turns out to be an evil demon. i'd really love it if people kept their allusions straight around here. thanks.
