I believe the Chinese can and will make boots that are high in quality and inexpensive-- not cheap. There was a time when "Made in Taiwan" meant it was a Happy Meal toy, now it means D-RAM. There is a developing social class in Asia-- a leisure class. The Japanese have had a leisure class for some time and now Korea, Taiwan and even Mainland China are enjoying the kind of economic prosperity that allows for society to enjoy wasteful wonton activities such as climbing. I've been in climbing shops in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei and Beijing and there is a market for high quality products. I would say the Japanese appreciate high quality goods the most-- ever notice that patagonia has a store in Tokyo? I think the term "ethnocentric" has to be applied to climber/consumers who think only western craftsman can produce quality gear. Don't be xenophobic... Just an opinion from someone who thinks free trade is good for everyone.

I climbed the Emmons route this summer and camped next to an AAI group. The guides were really nice and it was fun to listen to them give their schtick (sp?) on what to do and what not to do. What really cracked me up was this one guide who started every statement with "When I was on Denali..." After a while my partner and I would just about laugh outload everytime he said it. Another funny thing was the clients were totally enamoured with the guides, saying things like "the only real climbers left are guides like you" and thought all these guys did was guide for a few months out of the year and them climb on their own for the rest of ther year. Finally the guides admitted to having all kinds of hard labor jobs during the off season so they could afford to climb. The irony was there was a father-son pair in the group who did construction. The father owned the company and the boy was about to start taking it over. There was a smile on everyone's face when they realized that off the mountain, this boy would be the guides' boss. Guiding is cool, but it's no way to make a living... To the guides benefit, one of them had done some guiding down in Antartica, which has got to be pretty cool. I think I wanted to work up to guiding in Antartica or the Himalayas I might have persued guiding when I was in my early 20s. Of course, they knew the famous Gene Pires. I said I knew him too. Back to the original post, a WFR is fine, but get your EMT-B. It's not that hard and you'll be a lot more savvy when it comes to real emergencies. WFRs are a dime a dozen, an EMT cert. might make you stand out and get you the job.

Atomic TM22s 190 cm with Black Diamond 02s. Make me an offer. I saw a pair listed on the telemark website for $250 without bindings and I'm not sure if that's asking too much or if that's right. I'm skiing on a pair of Tua Megas and even though they are old and skinny I think I like the way they ski better than the Atomics. I bought the Atomics last year thinking I would get some good backcountry powder with them and, well, last years snow pack wasnt what I was hoping for.

Charlet Moser Pulsar Ice Tools. Both are bent shaft, one hammer, one adz. with head weights. Black Diamond Lockdown leashes to go with them. Picks are in good condition. Will part with them for $225.00 OBO. I also have some crampons for sale. Lowe Footfangs. $25. Back in the day they used to be the standard. Buy them both and I'll throw in a 12 pack of PBR! It's a good set up for someone just getting into ice... not ready to throw down a lot of cash for new stuff. The ice is coming....

I had a Ryobi cordless that died on me, though it was just recent;y returned to me by my exwife and I suspect she may have killed it. I've been looking at the 18 volt cordless tools too, but I may just get a drill with a cord to replace the Ryobi. A friend of mine has the 3 piece Dewalt set and it has worked really well for him. When I buy my next set of cordless tools I will only get 18 volt-- heavier, but so much stronger. I saw a 3 piece set of Black and Decker's with the drill, sawzall and circular saw for $179 at Target-- maybe I should have picked it up...

Still have the ledge. I just spent $210 dollars on my paramedic textbook. Honestly, I'd rather be a medic than climb a bigwall right now.
-
Fly is sold. Ledge is still available.
-
Yes, the ledge is the Skylounge and it folds. I had a buddy who had one and his was easier to set up than the A5 ledge. It's pretty cool and I think the price is fair, considering what double ledges are going for these days.

Black Diamond double portaledge for sale. Never used. $400 OBO North Face Double Fly for sale. Never used. $100 OBO Fly does not fit ledge Could be fixed (i.e. cut and resew/patch), but the fly has a floor and since I don't want it I thought I'd try to sell it first. Please PM me. Hmm...I get by okay. Maybe you should have thought about the longterm consequences of the lifestyle choices you made (i.e., having children) in light of your lack of marketable skills and ability to make money. Just a thought. This comment says to me you think it is acceptable that in our society there is a social class who, in spite of the fact that they perform a job essential to our economy, they be paid so little they cannot afford to have children or own a home. Do you think there should be people who should work 40, 50, 60 hours a week and still not be able to afford the most basic amenities like a safe home to live in, a good school to send their children to, basic health care, etc. Do you think it is a necessary evil of capitalism that there exists a lower class ? How many people should occupy this social class Greg W? 1 million? 2 million? 10 million? Not every person selling shirts at JCREW is 18 years old, there are 35 year olds with college degrees who decided that it is better to do something than be unemployed. Do you know how many underemployed or unemployed college grads there are out there? The next time you go to the store look at the guy pushing the shopping carts in the parking lot. How old is he? Do you as a more wealthy successful American say "sucks to be you" and see ya wouldn't want to be ya" and "supersize my order, while your at it." We all try to climb the ladder of success, but today there are more and more people hanging on to the bottom rung. .

I am a member of a union. The average wage in WA State is approx. $15/hr. I make less than this. My union has helped negotiate better health insurance for me and my family. My union has helped negotiate more job security so that in down times my company doesn't fire me at a whim and leave me and my family out in the breeze. Where I work, guys with 15+ years of experience make almost twice what FNGs make. Without the union, everyone would be a FNG because they are the cheapest to pay. Listen to what John Edwards has to say. There ARE two Americas and the middle class is not one of them. It is becoming increasingly harder for regular working guys to get by. How can I help my children with their homework if I have to work 60-70 hours a week just to make enough to pay the bills and keep a roof over our heads? Do you know what a McJob is? Not everyone gets paid mega bucks to sit in a cubicle and spray about their expensive leisure sport-- a lot of people work hard and not all of us get paid nearly enough to get by.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history. I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period. I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market. I am the first president in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record. I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one year period. After taking-off the entire month of August, I presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history. I am supporting development of a nuclear "Tactical Bunker Buster," a WMD. In my State Of The Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then blamed the lies on our British friends. I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. president. In my first year in office over 2-million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month. I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period. I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any president in U.S. history. I set the record for least amount of press conferences than any president since the advent of television. I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed. I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history. I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time. I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people) shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind. I've broken more international treaties than any president in U.S. history. I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are! the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her. I am the first president in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S. citizens, and the world community. I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government. I am the first president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission. I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law. I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees, and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention. I am the first president in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election). I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations. My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. history. My political party used the Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision. I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history. I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest failure of diplomacy in world history. I am first president in history to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security. I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts. I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein to justice. RECORDS AND REFERENCES: All records of my tenure as Governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed, and unavailable for public view. All records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view. All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review. Please consider my experience when voting in 2004 --George W. Bush

When I went to Nepal I smoked kind bud and hash all the way around the Annapurna Circuit. I saw a lot of people drop out in the first week as we got higher and higher. By the time my friends and I reached Throng La (Pass) we were fully acclimatized, and 5400 meters didn't seem so high. We ate many momos and other Nepali delicacies. I have many fond memories of smoking jays with people from all over the world while trekking through the world's most majestic mountains. Truly magical! If you've never smoked pot before I wouldn't recommend trying it for the first time at a high altitude, but if you're a smoker alredy I'd say try it-- it's gonna take you higher! Hayduke lives!

If each of you is willing to go to a trailhead with a Northwest Forest Park Pass sign and rip down the sign and throw it away maybe the people running this country would wake up and listen to the people. Better yet, chainsaw the signpost.

You might be a Washington gaper if you believe you climb better after smoking a few bowls of kind bud.

If you've got an ounce of loser in you AlpineK is going to cut it out of you with one of his many chainsaws.

I think it's time for a little monkey wrenchin'.
