I was looking for information concerning the Fee Demo Program and found the following link on the USFS site. It might be worth a minute or two to express your views directly to "the man" himself. http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/fee_demo/commentform.html The wording of the program is at the following site. http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/fee_demo/PL104-134asamended.shtml Spray away. --Climb on,,, [This message has been edited by rodeokevin (edited 10-22-2001).] [This message has been edited by rodeokevin (edited 10-22-2001).]

Hey everyone, I was just shown an article in the October issue of Backpacker magazine concerning a proposal to build a road connecting the Johnston Ridge Observatory and the Windy Ridge Viewpoint. I didn't see it on their web site yet, but it should be there soon, or I just couldn't find it. Anyway, I know I'm personally against it. If anyone would like to find out more, you can go to some of the following links. http://www.gptaskforce.org/gptf/sr504/index.html http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/SR504/ http://www.wta.org/~wta/cgi-bin/web10.pl?Advocacy+nw+nd+news42 I would also like to thank anyone who has posted before on topics concerning legislative action regarding our public lands. Let's work to keep them free and accessible. --Climb on,,,

I'm heading over to Leavenworth tomorrow (Thursday) morning. I'm not sure how long I'll be there, but I plan on throwing my gear in and taking my chances with the weather. Email me at rodeokevin@yahoo.com and let me know if you want to give it a try. I plan on leaving before 9 or so. -Climb on...

Dru, As long as the sheep are at least 10' above your head, I don't think the rangers would ever even notice them.
-
Mike, I've heard that Whitehorse is in the "Climbing Washington" guide. Does that book have the best info on this peak or do you know of something better?
-
Time to bring this back to the top o' the heap. Who all is going to be there? I'm definitely in. You on this Cavey? -Climb on,,,

Does that mean you'll be available for climbing next week as well? I'm on vacation with St Helens as my only planned outing and that's on Tuesday. If you're looking for anything earlier than your b-day give me a shout.

Thanks Jon, Count another letter on its way and another call made. Here's another sample for anyone interested. ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Congressman Jay Inslee 1329 Longworth Washington, DC 20515 Dear Congressman Inslee, I am among the many outdoor enthusiasts who regularly frequent the many National Forests and other public lands for recreational use. I also strongly oppose the Recreation Fee Demonstration Program currently being practiced on America's National Forests. I am writing to ask that you do whatever is possible to keep an extension of this program from being authorized. We are already paying taxes to support and maintain our national forests. Any “pay to play” or similarly phrased fees that are required of persons wishing to enjoy our natural National Treasures are in my opinion, very un-American. They do not need to be “enhanced” for maximum enjoyment, merely maintained to keep them as close as possible to their natural state. Again, I ask that you help to end this program as soon as possible and do nothing that would extend the authority of this program. I would like my letter to be part of the public record for the hearing held on 25 September 2001. Thank you, Kevin Jones Washington State resident, outdoor enthusiast and voter ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

The Flying Pig is at 2929 Colby Ave in Everett. If you're going north on I-5, take the Broadway exit (which is on the left) and continue north to Hewitt. Turn left on Hewitt (going west) and continue on until you cross Colby. I can't remember if you can turn left onto Colby from Hewitt or not, but it should only be a half a block south of Hewitt on Colby. If you're heading south on I-5, just take the Hewitt Ave exit and head west until you get to Colby. All else is the same. -Climb on,

Well, I'm heading up to at least the base of the Sitkum anyway. If anyone wants to catch up, I'll be staying just off the trail at Sitkum creek tonight. Call and leave a msg if you're planning on heading up. 425.820.3042

I'm thinking an approach from the Whitechuck with a start up the Pumice Creek basin is my start. Once on the hill we'd skirt the upper edges (southwest) of Ptarmigan and Vista. Cross Kennedy and travel along the upper (southwest again) of Dusty and move past North Guardian Rock to the Rabbit Ears and then shoot for the summit from there. This will all depend upon current conditions once we start up the hill though. Any input?
