Honestly, I cut and pasted this quote straight from my PM's. Since I happen to believe in this dictate, and since its source is a man even more important than OW....even more important than MattP himself....I'm going to protect his identity. OMG!! You're not saying it was an... ...wait just a minute. More important than MattP? Now that's just crazy!

Are you sure you haven't misquoted this individual? As I recall, he said: "People have a right to anonymous man sex in Turkish bath houses."

The world is not yet ready for throttle-by-wire. I'll stick to rod & cable, thanks. FJ60 Landcruiser-->Camry wagon-->T100 Pickup-->Tacoma Pickup-->FJ Cruiser. Almost 30 years of Toyotas. No complaints.

84%- where the fuck did you get this number? fox news? and how many out of your 84 have only so-called catastrophic coverage, which btw don't really cover anything. and since you are such a fucking duche-nozzle expert on healthcare when did you have to pay any medical bills. by the way you spew your bullshit not in the last decade. Fucking psycho.
-
Why would we want to revive a dead, so-called healthcare bill that is going to deny individual rights and apply additional taxes to the 84% of Americans who are presently covered? Why have Democrats locked out Republicans until now? Can you say Massachusetts? Why did Obama and Pelosi lie to us about "keeping the coverage [we] have?" Why didn't Obama C-Span debates as earlier promised? This bill is D-E-A-D. Appearing on TV with the teleprompter-in-chief would be pointless. BTW: why haven't we heard anything more from his "jobs summit" back in November? Because it was just a ploy.

I understand that you and Matt are friends, but don't let that blind you to the fact that he can get pretty nasty. "Outing" is a tool he's used before, but in this case he used it in an especially despicable manner--full name along with home city--in an effort to intimidate someone he doesn't like. If you guys want to be a website for elite climbers only, then, by all means, change the rules and see where it gets ya. Peace. Now, come on, Matt's not such a bad guy. Sure, he can get a little pissy, but he's pretty easy going and well intentioned for the most part. If there was a nasty contest, I think you and I would probably take home more ribbons. Sure. But you and I don't pretend to exist "above the fray"--or wear little yellow badges with an "M."

Wouldn't legally loose arguments tend to, you know, violate the rule of law, which is supposed to 'represent our values and ethics'? You're acting like the SC squeeked this one by 'on a technicality'. A law that denies a non-profit from running a political ad? Hardly a 'nit' issue. When the rule of law violates basic ethics (corporate money swamping out the speech of the people and corrupting pols in this case) there isn't any point in trying to have a legally consistent argument. Now that we're clear on where you're coming from, you may kindly abstain from selectively playing the constitution card in future discussions. -
i betcha $700 billion that we'll find WMD in iraq too Tired old argument. Besides, in OB's brave new world we speak trillion. But since you demand answers; yes, I suspect the weapons were, in fact, hidden in Chicago.

Prole started the thread by claiming this ruling was the worst since Dred Scott v. Sanford. I've already mentioned Kelo, but here are a couple of truly outrageous SCOTUS rulings that reveal the moronic nature of his thesis: Plessy v. Furgeson Korematsu v. United States -
I wager you 47 tons of jet fuel that Chicago is going to host the Olympic games.

I'm not sure if their ruling includes re enfranchisement of felons in prison, or only felons who have served their time. I would support the later, but would vehemently oppose the former. I haven't read the ruling--I only know what I've read second hand. -

Good post. I'm gonna pass it on to my current law prof who, like you, noted that he was withholding judgment. (In the unlikely event he hasn't already seen it.) -

In the real world of work, people who never play hooky are valuable employees. I've missed about 2 days in 7 years at this job. I'm proud of the fact that I don't play hooky, and I don't get sick...knock on wood. My students know they can depend on Professor Webster to be there everyday, on time, prepared to work. When it dumps 10 inches of powder...I still come to work. If that bothers you, I'm sorry. I have a strong work ethic, and it has kept me fully employed for 38 years with a variety of employers. Yes, I've missed out on a lot of fun...but the benefits are a paid off house, car and credits cards. I also get 7 weeks off, paid. When we try to hire teachers, most of them don't work out because they do not have a strong work ethic. They skip out and let our clients (the students) down. All employers need reliable employees, not flakes. I do agree that working weekends so you can save money and retire early is not good. You have to climb when you are still relatively young and healthy. I have always envied people who take vast amounts of time off, or play the system to get their climbing and leisure paid for by uncle sam. However, I can't bring myself to do it. I think it's cheating, and not carrying your weight. An honest days work, for an honest days pay makes me feel good, and look forward to the weekend.

Reciting bogus stats is beneath you, Off. Ditto, the comment re my children. But I should have clarified: This monster of a bill is dead. And any bill wherein the president blatantly lies ("you get to keep your doctor") to the American people will suffer the same fate. I would love to get the insurance industry under control, but all your side can do is think about ways to supplant it with government. Pathetic, really.

I smell a j_b Huffingtonpost just around the corner!

Watching JayB choke the life outta Prole/j_b's already tenuous grasp of the world is popcorn-worthy.

A helpful and civil response. Thanks. My modest $$ are on the way.

I'd still say the overall package is reasonable. That said - there has been an increased tax burden over the past 25 years on the individual vs. the corporate entity. Combine this with the restrictions placed on state and local governments regarding Tim Eyman's wako-ness and there is little wiggle room. The idea that there is some bloated bureaucracy living off the public dole is baseless. Spend any time with federal, state, or local employees these days and you will quickly understand what they are up against. They are stuck in a difficult place - and floating bond measures, as unpalatable as it is during a recession, seems to be the only choice. Unless of course you don't mind 50 kids per classroom, parks closed, and services curtailed. It's a big hole and one that has been dug over a couple decades. Foreign adventures, unprescedented flow of capital to the upper class, and reducing of corporate taxes - that's were our money has gone. Bullshit. Washington State government's biennial budget has expanded from $24Bn to $33Bn in the last 5 years alone. What do Democrats in Olympia have to do "foreign adventures"? One party government (and its union benefactors) is the problem here. Nice try.

immolation in the catholic church was commmon in the past but usually not self-inflicted nor did the victim die w/o shrieking in agonizing pain or moving a muscle! My history is a little rusty. Now, these are only the witches who somehow managed to pass the submersion in a barrel of water test, correct?
