  1. You missed my point. "Wild Sky" does not meet the criteria set forth in The Wilderness Act. This bill should not have become law. Neither should the ridiculous proposal to expand the Mount Hood Wilderness down in Oregon. We're breaking our own rules and it stinks. BTW; Senator Coburn, Republican, Oklahoma, is still in office.
  2. Damn shame The Wilderness Act is being diluted like this.
  3. "The fact is, we just don't know. In fact, we never knew for sure, and now that we're even less sure than we were before we're just gonna change the input until our Commodore 64 coughs up the climate model we can sell down at the boutique. Basically, we're just gonna make shit up as we go..." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7376301.stm
  4. She's got a real purty mouth. Even purtier when it's shut.
  5. McGovern now supports Obama. This is encouraging!

  7. 22,000 dead, and up to thirty thousand missing in Myanmar/Burma... Hey! I hear Hillary and Obama split the big win yesterday. Have you seen the price of gas? And I hear REI is having a 20% off sale on neat things soon.

  9. Alumni--like you and Matt--should be embarrassed by the recent crop of students and profs. Activism/peaceful protest is OK. Promotion of anarchy isn't what the vast majority of Washingtonians are paying for. Write a letter. Save your school.
  10. Nice trip! Lover's Lane looks pretty filled-in too.
  11. The debacles are many, and are often instigated by staff including at least two mass expulsions from Mexico for illegal interference in elections there. Of course, Rachael Corrie's parents see things differently, but I can't help think that poor girl would have had a wonderful life had she been offered more balanced curricula. And lately, things have just gotten downright ugly in Olympia--and all roads seem to lead directly to The Evergreen State College. I think some profs and staff owe the public an explanation. Now...you were saying something about a privately funded school that appears to offer a focused, albeit narrow curriculum directed toward internal security? I guess I'll agree it's odd--but at least we're not paying for it. BTW: I only recognize four names on your list. I'll bet most other state schools produce superior alum lists annually. I also see a whole lot of "activists".
  12. 50m/year of state tax dollars going to keep the doors open at TESC is wrong... http://shiftshapers.gnn.tv/blogs/27131/Washington_Riot_at_Evergreen_State_College
  13. Except I have yet to see where the fees being charged support more than enforcement of said fee.
  14. We had a great time. Not sure why you think otherwise. Not sure how expressing concern about the parking at Paradise is any different than...say...you bitching about MLU's on Mount Hood, super stud.
  15. Editing after original post is poor form. You went off on KK before he elevated the discussion in-kind. The question remains: Is the parking availability at Paradise going to return to its pre-construction levels? Not sure why that possibility upsets you so much.
  16. Dooooood! That's totally rad and awesome! How proud you must be of yourself. Don't you have a real job?
  17. Visiting Fidel's deathbed in Cuba? Rotting in a Bolivian prison? Enrolled in a local 12-step program (again)? Sequestered away as a contestant on next season's The Biggest Loser? Reincarnated avatar? Dead? Banned? Ahhh, dare to dream...
  18. Here is KK's original question: I couldn't help notice how the new visitor center takes up some of the already limited parking up at paradise, and was wondering if the old visitor center will be demolished to make up for the lost spaces. He doesn't sound angry to me. Maybe you're the one who has "issues"? Sounds like many here agree with his unspoken premise though. Maybe you should get out from behind that NPS desk and do some recreatin'.
  19. The psychology of control.
  20. I'm not sold. This would be akin to The Audubon Society or The Sierra Club being granted the exclusive right to administer the climbing permit program at Mount Rainier and collect fees. Bullshit. "The Institute" can keep their brochures...and show me some pictures of their "trail work/repairs" as related to actual climbing routes. This is a scam masquerading as public education. If I am stopped along the trail by a ranger I will just politely tell him/her that I am a snowmobiler.
  21. Exactly. Note to any MRNP personnel watching this site: The folks who use the park will not take efforts to restrict access in such a manner lying down. When you tear down the flying saucer, use the space for parking.
  22. It sounds like you're bitter that no one else will come and clean that algae off of your trailer.
  23. Trip: Camp Muir - Date: 4/27/2008 Trip Report: Hiked to Muir today with KaskadskyjKozak. Good trip! A nice boot-path exists path above Panorama Point and the public shelter is accessible. Windy and cold at Muir, but warmer below. A couple of parties summited this morning via Gibraltar Ledges and told of good conditions.
