  1. Nope Cavey, I was a LUGER in Lake Placid- everyone's got me confused with the other guy! Peoples' Pub in Ballard, if too many of us show up we'll have to move to another venue- Beck
  2. Went north of Lake Wenatchee to alpine on Fortress Mountain, sat around in the snow on Sunday getting tan.
  3. Yes, the editors of ANAM do include nonclimbing related mountain incidents if there is relevance to the climbing community. this is probably not one they would include.
  4. Climbing the beautiful glacially polished granites of the Laurentian shield on the shores of Lake Superior, saw my first bolted route in 82 , moved west in the mid eighties to climb Red Rocks/Wind Rivers- If I recall Carolyn, you are in Minneapolis, right? You can go climb Devil's Lake Wisconsin or hunt up Copper Country Michigan, there's probably a bunch of climbs between Deluth and Thunder Bay
  5. Thanks Dynamite, you're pretty dynomite yourself, Cavey, it's true, Holly's a hottie and smart to boot, better watch out! Hope to see you at the pub club, come on,Cavey, you know drinking just ups the class/grade of anything you climb~!
  6. Anyone interested in going to do some skiing up on the Suiattle/honeycomb glaciers/ Kololo Peaks on a 3-4 day tour, to get some turns in on something other than Rainier? Maybe last weekend in Aug, take advantage of fullish moon/labor day weekend?
  7. I've got SPRAY in my eyes!! Who else wants to camp and climb the last weekend in september and drink beers in the moonlight ?
  8. Yob oo9 give me a call at work , I'm heading east to mess around on Fortress/ Chiwawa- you game? Sunday drinks and free pool at the Old Post Office Tavern in L-worth?
  9. Well, let's see... I don't even know if I can find it (just kidding!) Great euro beer selection and CHEAP TOO which is even more astonishing... Better bring your communist card or your little red book to take full advantage of proletariat prices... Oh, i think it's 5425 Ballard Ave NW, just off Market Street in Ballard. Tuesday August 7 from 6pm onward. I-5 north or south take the 45th street exit, head west- keep driving, thru wallingford, continue in the most forwardly direction underneath 99 and continue. this is the top of Fremont, continue forwardly curvy hilly dilly down to Ballard, hence the street turns into Market Street. Drive Market to Ballard Ave. Look to the left. you'll see the sunset tavern and just down from that is Peoples" Pub- I'll be there at 6ish. Abbreviated directions; I-5 N or S , 45th street exit, head west, keep driving- you'll get to Ballard and Market Streets, look to your left to find the pub Ya sure you betcha eh! 10. looks like Ballard is a good spot, How about the Peoples' Pub this time? You should see the tap selection- it is AMAZING! sure, Lisa, call the B-ham meeting whenever you want to~! the more the merrier! Thats' alright, Dwayner, I just thought you'd want to, being close to that last Tacoma shindig- Cavey, where are you drinking tonite? I may not get the answer to this post, hope to see you Tuesday!!
  11. Drinks this Tuesday night? Dwayner, you want to host Tacoma or should Seattle throw another meet?
  12. Cascade Climbers Fall Mega Fest, Sept 28-29-30, very close to the full moon Oct 2, location TBA. Should be fun, getting it dialed in over the next couple of weeks, looks like somewhere in Icicle Creek Canyon, keep watching for updates. We're talking end of September because it's NOT Labor day, it's very close to full moon, and it takes some time to put these things togther.
  13. Who wants to go to a Cascade Climbers Fall Mega Fest to drink beers in the light of a full moon and do some climbing while we're out camping for a weekend? Just a tally, now , no need for Spray Lard to make a big diss fest and rain on THIS parade, sounds like he's driving his float in a perpetual rainstorm!!
  14. Refurbs, can't rebuild a stove in 5 minutes even with a sonic bath unless you're like Gomer from FULL METAL JACKET. Soak your stove in bicycle degreaser or citrus cleanser, attack it with a tooth brush and rinse with white gas or solvent, then h20 and a thorough drying out in sun or a hot window /garage.
  15. Wow!! way to Spray some sour grapes, spray lard, if you don't want to hang out with other climbers and have a good time this fall, please, do yourself a favor and don't go to such a dissappointing little shindig like the one we're planning here. For those concerned about the possibility of this thing taking off, don't worry, if it gets too Bumbershoot everyone can just stop coming some year, who knows if it'll even fly. Let's worry about that hurdle later. Also, if someone's worried about this being a "Revenge of the Nerds " situation, I think that if anyone has seen the caliber of some of the climbers that post here and/or have attended a Pub Fest would know this is not the case. Also, who cares? Do you climb to be cool, or do you climb to climb? When I mentioned a possibility of this being bigger next year, that is my hope, any like minded forward thinking optimists may agree w/ me. This year, no ads, no big hype, just beers bouldering and fun in the light of September's Blue Moon- Who's with me? Beck
  16. DJ, band, drum circle, whatever, I',m going to find out just what we CAN get away with at Bridge Creek, these intermediate climbing instructors from Everett use this site for big raucous gatherings, want to find out HOW raucous. I think 50-100 people could show up, posting a thread about interest in CascadeClimbers Fall Mega Fest could gauge interest level. I was picturing putting up a flyer at Feathered Friends, Jim Nelsons, Marmot, It's not too soon to think about the second annual- think sponsors, gear booty, demos, etc for 2002- whoever is into making this thing GO, jump in on this year's organizing, I certainlly feel the NW needs more of these types of events, don't let Boulder and Ouray get all the fun-
  17. signme up!
  18. Hey hiker wa, I sent you an email, did you not get it?
  19. yeah, the cost/benefit ratio is priceless when you factor in the honey buckets. |I've had a lot of experience with the logistics of these types of shindigs and have a pretty good feel of what's required, as we get this ball rolling there's some items we'll need to round up, not having to worry about crappers is a big relief LOL.
  20. We chatted it up at the Pub Fest last night, we can get away with partying at Bridge creek- the cost is seventy bucks and they bring in porta potties for your group, accomodate 70 people- I think we're looking at 50-100 people, who can tell for sure- If this is suppossed to be a climbing fest, wouldn,t it be better if we had it in close proximity to bouldering/cragging? Mazamas all great and everything and appreciate the option, the problem with putting this on is going to be a matter of group camping logistics- garbage, toilets, water, suitable already impacted campsites,parking- I don't know any private landowners that want 100 grimy climber types shitting in the bushes!! What's the word, let's come up with a site proper by Monday, let's all scope loc, but the emphasis is climbing and up to 100 people.
  21. Conrad Anker mentioned their satellite hookups being pulled midexpedition- one day they were posting to the site via live uplinks, the next day, no contact or any further support. there was talk of Quokka being as woefully underfunded and over leveraged on these wildly unrealistic expectations that most internet companies seem susceptible to.
  22. We stick pig in mud slick! and squeals like my sister after Daddy's done.
  23. get chummy with someone who can get you Pro Deals( hey, wait, I test gear for MSR, I can get it at cost!!) Things I like(gear wise) Absolutely second Daniel Patrick Smith, the Black Diamond Betamind is a frickin' stellar shelter, it is DA BOMB! How about, New Strech Woven fabrics Scholler Dynamic rules the roost for maximum comfort and versatility!
  24. Mike- will see you there at the Flying Pig, can't leave Seatown till 6. anyone else out there need a ride, room for one more Seattle area (maybe)
  25. Hikerwa, are you going to the Pub Club tonite? Erik, let's see if those yahoos who run the campsite reservations can accomodate our "bible study" group for that last weekend in September, I will stop in person to USFS office and get the skinny from a live person this weekend. Thanks, Yossarian, for the heads up, we'll have to get the ducks all in a row to pull this off successfully, maybe at an actual campground that's been paid for we can have more success at avoiding the beer bust- If we need to go way remote like high school kids, let's just do that, pick a campground 1 kilometer from some trailhead- I volunteer to wheelbarrow the first keg in!
