Aboslutely tru story: In 1979 I ate government surplus nuts and oatmeal and a bit of cheese as my main food sources during an extended climbing trip.

"THERE was ruin and terror in Manhattan, but, over the Hudson River in New Jersey, a handful of men were dancing. As the World Trade Centre burned and crumpled, the five men celebrated and filmed the worst atrocity ever committed on American soil as it played out before their eyes. Who do you think they were? Palestinians? Saudis? Iraqis, even? Al-Qaeda, surely? Wrong on all counts. They were Israelis – and at least two of them were Israeli intelligence agents, working for Mossad, the equivalent of MI6 or the CIA. Their discovery and arrest that morning is a matter of indisputable fact. To those who have investigated just what the Israelis were up to that day, the case raises one dreadful possibility: that Israeli intelligence had been shadowing the al-Qaeda hijackers as they moved from the Middle East through Europe and into America where they trained as pilots and prepared to suicide-bomb the symbolic heart of the United States. And the motive? To bind America in blood and mutual suffering to the Israeli cause." Link The question is why is Erik falling for it?

Posts like this are simply BS. I think that Greg is just stirring up shit for sport and since I do not believe he is serious I believe this post is an embarassment to the board in general. More climbing please. PP

In the Squamish guide there is a picture showing the Grand Wall with (compared to today) little brush trees and moss growing on it. I was looking at an old issue of Mountain (63) and it had some pictures from the 70's of the Malemute and I was shocked how clean the cliff was. Have you seen picture of the Chief throughout the [ast century? If so, was there a burst of plant growth just recently?

Ok another good day spent at work but this route in Leavenworth is on my mind. I don't know much about commitment in general but the route ( Committed ) is one gnarly lead. Who's tried it? On lead without preinspection? Full credit to TB! PP

"My purpose is not to denigrate the impressive estimated 7.2 percent growth rate for the third quarter of 2003. It is, rather, to stress the obvious: we've had our hopes dashed in the past, and it remains to be seen whether this is just another one-hit wonder." Krugman Today It's a lot of work to always look on the dark side of life. PP

I have been busy at work and come back to find that I have lost interest in this thread but in response to JK’s question, I was starting to develop some thoughts relative to Dryads question of how risky behavior is received amongst climbers. The guys I mentioned did exhibit reckless behavior. I would also agree that soloing is not always as risky as perceived - Bachar while soloing a 5.9 slab in the Meadows is probably less likely to be involved in an accident than some party of newbies climbing Hermaphrodite Flake.
