yeah, it's a fun climb, but i just did it less than 2 months ago. i haven't done diedre since april. i also don't know if calculus crack would be "appropriate" for someone who's maybe never climbed a crack before. i want them to think of trad climbing as fun as much as it is challenging.

he looks like he tried to climb into one of those aluminum popcorn popper thingamajigs.

thelawgoddess replied to E-rock's topic in Climbing Partners
oh, never mind; this is just about climbing. i thought there was going to be actual spanking involved. -

i did snake last time i was in squish. i've also done a troll's sonnet (which leaves me with no desire to do banana peel). and i did calculus crack in july. i just remember diedre (as my first climb in squish and my first multi-pitch climb and only a few weeks since i'd really started climbing) got me really excited.
-
it's not that crowded. if you get up early you don't have to deal with lineups. i climbed diedre in april but i wasn't leading back then. i'm thinking of doing it again (except leading this time) because i might be taking someone who hasn't done any trad climbing whatsoever and i think they would enjoy it. just wondering about the direct start as an alternative (in case there ARE a bunch of people at the regular one).

-
what is the diedre direct start like? is it all slab or does the corner system start there?

you never know with those italians!

i've done some reading, but it's not quite the same as hands on real life training. i'd be game!

On the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, Jews traditionally go to the ocean or a stream or river to pray and throw bread crumbs into the water. Symbolically, the fish devour their sins. For ordinary sins.....................White Bread For erotic sins.........................French Bread For particularly dark sins..........Pumpernickel For complex sins.....................Multigrain For twisted sins.......................Pretzels For tasteless sins....................Rice Cakes For sins of indecision...............Waffles For sins committed in haste.....Matzo For sins of chutzpah................Fresh Bread For substance abuse...............Stoned Wheat For use of heavy drugs.............Poppy Seed For petty larceny.....................Stollen For committing auto theft.........Caraway For timidity/cowardice..............Milk Toast For ill-temperedness................Sourdough For silliness, eccentricity.........Nut Bread For not giving full value.............Shortbread For jingoism, chauvinism..........Yankee Doodles For excessive irony..................Rye Bread For unnecessary chances........Hero Bread For war-mongering...................Kaiser Rolls For dressing immodestly..........Tarts For causing injury to others......Tortes For lechery and promiscuity.....Hot Buns For promiscuity with gentiles....Hot Cross Buns For racist attitudes..................Crackers For sophisticated racism..........Ritz Crackers For being holier than thou.........Bagels For abrasiveness.....................Grits For dropping in without notice...Popovers For overeating.........................Stuffing For impetuosity.......................Quick Bread For indecent photography.........Cheesecake For raising your voice too often..Challah For pride and egotism...............Puff Pastry For sycophancy, ass-kissing.....Brownies For being overly smothering.......Angel Food Cake For laziness.............................Any long loaf For trashing the environment......Dumplings and finally, For telling bad jokes/puns........Corn Bread

-
i thought you couldn't climb 5.10. i trust you've got some mechanical ascenders?

i ended up getting the velcro anasazi's. i've been climbing since april and thought i already knew how to edge, but boy was i sadly mistaken. day one on my new shoes was a lesson in [more] proper edging. whoa; a new tool and a new trick! (the mythos are so forgiving that way, letting you smear everything with ease ...) anyhow, i love my new shoes. and they aren't nearly as ugly as i thought they were before i had the chance to climb on them.
