  1. For now, Wind, Sand, and Stars by Antoine de St. Exupery. I picked it up on someone's recommendation from one of these threads wink.gif

my bf has that book. i guess it's on that list of 100 best adventure books or something ... and it's about flying. pretty good read. i recently read "one flew over the cuckoos nest" and "to kill a mockingbird" - trying to catch up on some of the classics most americans read in high school. started "electric kool aid acid test" but haven't gotten very far as i don't find it a very compelling read. the book i'm supposed to be reading is "risk financing" ... yuck!

  2. drivers around here freak out every time the weather changes - doesn't matter if it's from rain to sun or sun to rain. i don't get it.

loving this cool weather for a change, though. thumbs_up.gif

  3. So my next question was how do Carfax or similar reports get off saying they provide a comprehensive collision histories for vehicles? The auto body guy said they have often wondered the same thing.

i don't think they claim to offer a totally comprehensive report. they say on their site "While we'll never know everything about a particular car," and they have a link on their "about" page that lists some of their sources - auto auctions and some state's police departments and whatnot.

  4. use whatever works. i've never carried one, and i think the only time my partner had one was when we were on a big wall. axes usually work fine; especially if you have a more technical axe with a hammer. if you really want a hammer and can't find a climbing-specific hammer you can afford, the hardware store should definitely have some cheaper viable options.

  5. Perhaps someone might say at your funeral, "he died doing what he loved." Indeed, such a remark is terrible. Because it indicates that such a pursuit was more important than family and friends.

i would hope people wouldn't take it that way. love yourself first. that doesn't mean you don't love others ...

  6. why do people think climbers are flaky? my partners aren't flaky or they won't be my partners for long. is it that flaky folks hang with one another?

no; typically the flakes flake before getting a chance to be considered a climbing partner.
