  5. Dane, i mean scared in the best possible way. i mean Rainier is a big mountain. it has been looming over my head since i was learning how to walk. the mountain just scares me. i mean its so big and the terrain is so vast. you could spend a lifetime there. and people do. so whne i wrote scared i meant it in a good way. as for liberty ridge i know its a hard climb. i personaly dont want to do it for my first time up. BUT ITS SO GEORGOUS!!!! i know i am sick. all my friends say i should pay more attention to girls, but when we are driving by mount Rainier on a class trip and i get a good look at it i will stop the conversation at hand and just stare.......then of course all my friends start making fun of me KAUTZ 9! EMMONS 5! DC 3! Aidan
  6. OK GUYS ITS TIED UP KAUTZ 4! EMMONS 4! DC 2! but damnit...i wanted to climb liberty ridge this year . I know i know.....to advandced for your fist time up rainier . Aidan [This message has been edited by highclimb (edited 04-30-2001).]
  7. See i told you no one is from tacoma!
  8. shame on them. they should know better. didnt their mothers ever teach them good climbing ettiquette(sp)when they were little. when they did this did you speak up about it? if anyone came up to me while i was belaying someone and threw their gear right down at my feet. and where standing around waiting and being impatient i would spend all day at that climb and just do laps on it till they left and just as they leave say something to them about common courtesy. and then be like oh wait did you want to climb this next i am sorry here we will go now. another thought. thats why i try to spend as much as my time away from crags as possible and more time in the alpine enviroment. the people there seem to be, well how can i put this nicely, rude and selfish(sp). now i know this is a stereotype but i have come across alot more poeple like this cragging than in the mountains, in fact i am not sure i have come across anyone in the mountains that was rude or mean. now the people i meet up climbing in the mountains have never been selfish or rude but instead nice and open. does anyone else share this notion? of course there are exceptions when your tired of those darned 11 mile, steep switch backed, Cascade approaches , and just want to go out craggin for a day. 10. I am really lookin forward to this may and or june for maybe attempting RAinier. i have never been above 10,080 feet on its flanks and am scared but looking very much forward to moving higher. what routes do you suggest? want to get away from the crowds i.e. Emmons or Ingraham glaicer. do you think Liberty Ridge is a bad idea for your first time on Rainier because of the diffuculty of retreat? thank you in advance Aidan
  11. I seriously think you are a complete drunk! Aidan p.s. i cant wait till i am 21 and can try it...lol
  12. my post about bart was in no way meant to be harsh or mean. i dont even know the guy. i dont even think it happened. i just thought it would be funny as hell! which i still think it is. so i agologies if i have been mean or rude or insulting. the sonics are the way to go anyway. Aidan
  13. i aggree with what the great bartt paul said at a talk he did at a middle school when a kid raised his hand and asked why he didnt just play baseball or basketball like he did ....he responded with well here...."Because Baseball is a pussy sport....if you mess up in baseball you can go home and cry to your mom you pussy..but if you mess up in climbing you DIE!" i just thought i would share....i am not sure this is true but i have been told it did happen....HAHA Aidan
  14. BUT I AM A hypochondriac!!!!!!!!!!!!.....I worry alot. but thank very much for your advise. it i found the tick that night and pulled it right out! i have not experianced any rash or feverish syptoms and everybody i talk to tells me not to worry, but i cant help it . thank you Aidan
  15. i have another question....the tick i pulled out of my shoulder was a dog tick....they are bigger than deerticks. and arnt deerticks the only kinds that transmit lyme? Aidan
  16. that sucks.... i was beaten by a tick last saturday. i was climbing outer space and that night i got home and took off my shirt to take a shower a saw that nasty little bastard in my shoulder. now i havnt seen anything like a rash and have not gotten flu like symtoms. what do you think i shoudl do? should i be safe and get a blood check or what? there is a great article in Climbing Magazine this month about ticks. its a must read for people climbing in the Leavenworth area. Aidan

  20. there are no sites there. Aidan
  21. i have a pair a grivel G12.....work great, have no problem climbing slush to WI3+ (thats the hardest water ice i can climb). and the are great for alpine climbing because they are compact and LIGHT!...buy the antisnow plate for them, it will reduce the risk of sliping. Aidan
  22. when i look at pics of it there seems to be a huge ice cliff looming at the top of the ridge waiting for its next pray......i know thats when the steep climbing comes in but does it pose objective danger? thanks Aidan

    The Future

yeah i found climbing after i quite wasting time with little league sports like soccer and baseball. i hate being told how to do something by a coach. i was tramatized, my coach would yell at me all the time and i never got to play. climbing really brought me out of that slump. i could finally do things at my pace and take in the beutiful outdoors and alpine settings, like boston basin. when i was sitting on that solar shiter looking across at JBerg it was bliss (i know thats why to much information ) i felt like the luckiest 13 year old in Washington. good idea MVS but how about leavenworth or maybe if i get lucky the pickets. yeah thats it. it can for fitness Aidan [This message has been edited by highclimb (edited 04-11-2001).]
  24. Gerg, thats way to much information......but funny as hell. i think you need to clarify with kevin on what kind of protection your giving away if you even call old expired lifestlye's protection...hahah Aidan [This message has been edited by highclimb (edited 04-11-2001).]
