I was at Smuggler's Notch last January, the high in Burlington was -7 ... ice or rock, it really didn't matter, at those temps for a week or so it was all hard as rock

repeated folding in the same manner will break down the fabric along with any waterproof coating the material is treated with

I would definatly agree with this thought, particually for a tool that was never really that popular here in the US .... one look at CAMP's website and you will see they have gone a whole new direction with the Awax ...

it all depends on the snow conditions .... one year, in Feb, it took me and 2 buddys 6 @#$% hours in fresh knee deep powder (even with snowshoes) to get from the snow park directly below to a camp refered to as "The Yeti's Lair" below the Mainmast .. on good solid pack it's about 2-1/2 hours ... roughtly about 3000 vertical in 1 mile Becky's description in approach (b) is the best .. even with that there are a few tricks ... keep an eye out for some survey tape and every once in a while you may also see tree blazes and old pieces of tin can nailed to trees as well ... this area gets a fair amount of hunter traffic in the fall disclaimer - I am in no way saying that the ice on the north face is worth the effort. Likewise for other potentials throughout the rest of the formation. And you won't know what you will find untill you are on it ... Some years it's been good others have been nothing but loose snow and some crappy class 4. leave your skis at home ... if the snow is deep shoes are the only way to do it If you have a snowmobile you can do a little recon by taking the FS road up to Raven Roost which is directly to the north acrossed the Falls creek drainage

Dead voted in governor's race By PHUONG CAT LE AND MICHELLE NICOLOSI The Seattle Post Intelligencer USA - At least eight people who died well before the November general election were credited with voting in King County, raising new questions about the integrity of the vote total in the narrow governor's race, a Seattle Post-Intelligencer review has found. The evidence of votes from dead people is the latest example of flaws in an election already rocked by misplaced votes and allegations that there were thousands more votes counted than actual voters. County officials say they are investigating the cases pointed out by the P-I. "These are not indications of fraud," said Bill Huennekens, King County's elections supervisor. "Fraud is a concerted effort to change an election." The P-I review found eight people who died weeks before absentee ballots were mailed out, between Oct. 13 and 15, but were credited with voting in King County. Among them was an 81-year-old Seattle woman who died in August but is recorded as having voted at the polls. Seattle PI

gee didn't mean to rain on your parade ... throw you northerner's some rubble from South Cenral and you run and hide under those nice granite slabs up north. her are a few clues ... Half the height of Rainier, give or take a few hundred feet old volcanic remnant winter conditions are the best for climbing intricate maze of gulleys terrain of the goat tom and bob, not necessarily in the morning South of Snoqualmie unsavory rock quality crow and Raven Roost krawarik & martin survey to the west

I seem to remember a story of a guy who used to have a litte blacksmith shop in Ventura, CA ... sold his wares out of the back of his car. People loved his products. Great quality at a fair price ... hmm , what was his name? I think he got into clothing as well.

drC .... here is a link to the Cold Cold World Website Cold Cold World Home Page and one specifically for the standard Valdez Valdez in regards to the "redline", it is a 2 meg bitmap not a jpg, I don't really have a server that I can post it from, if the photo gallery was up I would post it there. I'd be more than happy to email it to you or better if someone would be willing to post it from their server I'd gladly oblige along with images of the final product. wes

Just received my belated bday gift to myself. A custom CCW Valdez. I asked Mr. Rackliff to add tool tubes, a hydration pocket and tube port, 2 internal daisy chains, a padded waist belt with gear loops and a rope compression strap. I also had him reposition the standard daisys on the outside of the pack and add a second shorter set in the center for strappin' on the 'poons. Build with the bomer construction Randy is know for, what can I say. This guy and his company Just as impressive as the pack is the way the whole transaction wet. I emailed my original request in off his website. Randy himself (not some outsourced backoffice worker in India) replied back with a few answers to my original questions. A few more emails back and forth, I sent a redlined jpg of the std Valdez, Randy says "Yeah, I can do that." Also, since this falls within of my definition of "major redesign" there will be an extra charge of $20.00. Hope that is acceptable. Twenty bucks extra for all the changes ... thats all. I ordered it on Dec 6th .... he shipped it on the 16th. With all the "cheaper" imported products on the market today I find it extremely encouraging that I can get a domestically mfr'd custom pack with such outstanding service AND at a great price. It also makes me think that the whole Serratus-MEC, import-export thing is probably more BS and mismanagement than anything else. I already own a Chernobyl .. when I start thinking that I need something bigger the Chaos will be the first thing I look at. Randy ..... you are the Man !!! Thanks again
