Here's a cool picture I found on NWhikers.net from a Nov 4 trip. This oughta really screw up the pagesizing on this topic !

Here's something somewhat recent from the WTA websight: Silver Peak Nov 16

Shit highlander!! Your highlights list is basically my wish list for the future!!! Nice job Good memories: Liberty Crack Backbone Ridge East Butt Big Snow "virtual" FA Kaleetan N Ridge Summit Chief some fun craggin' stuff but I guess they don't make the top 5 disappointments: Would've been nice to get out more. Got a couple of new skeletons, Steel Pulse and Narrow Arrow Direct at Index, and failed to remove Sloe Children from the skeleton rack (wasn't brave/stupid enough to go for that last move on a tipped out #00 TCU)

How many times can we say it Fency!? Public Education is an asset of the community. It is not something one puts money in to get it out in your own education. Noone is allocated a stipend! Everyone is given a free alternative for their education. This is consistent with the fact that all taxpayers pay for schools regardless of whether they have kids in school. That has been my stance. I think that has been very clear. Just because you cannot understand this concept after repeated readings does not imply that the only reason I say this is because of party line.

Why should they pay? because we live in a generally socailist country...true we are capitolistic, but in terms of welfare, education adn other such services which are "essential." my point though is that if we find our services unsatisfactory, we should be able to use our educational stipend on which ever financial institution serves our needs... does that make sense? It does not make sense because there is no "educational stipend". People pay money into the school system regardless of whether or not they have dependents directly utilizing the services. King County subsidizes Metro (the buses, etc..) should those who refuse to ride the bus get "vouchers" toward the purchase of a car if they don't like riding the bus? Public school system is a service avaible to individuals in the community. You can utilize it or not. You pay for it regardless. I feel the public school system is valuable to our society in general. That is why I happily pay for that part of the taxes and vote for increasing funding to the schools. The education of my children is a secondary reason I happily pay for public schools. Currently my schoolage child attends a private school. I will reiterate. You are not penalized. You pay the same as everyone else. The fact that you decided to buy a different education is irrelevant. You made that choice.

I noticed the Smoot description said half a dozen climbers could camp out on the ledge at the top. Sounds like the description of Ye' old Toothe recently posted! And speaking of descriptions of the Toothe and internet beta and Scott E. Rix, I noticed that his recent Toothe report (compare and contrast to Toothe report BTW as Dru has suggested) recommends a rack of a .5 and a #2 Camalots and a bunch of slings. What do you guys think about that!!

Matt, I think you are talking about UT's crux. Forrest seems to be talking about what you refer to as the "next corner". That's the one that has the thank god "pointy projection". And what is this about "cheating"? Are you refering to taping? Taping is not cheating, only using chalk is. [ 11-18-2002, 01:25 PM: Message edited by: chucK ]

The coolest thing about Godzilla is the sustained nature. That is evidenced by the fact that I think UT and F_m are inadvertently talking about two different cruxes. By the way, by "sustained" here I don't mean "long time without rests" but am talking more about uniformity of difficulty the entire way up. [ 11-18-2002, 01:07 PM: Message edited by: chucK ]

quote: Originally posted by Fence Sitter: ifpublic schools are not satisfactory, we have the right to seek out another alternative and we should not be punished for it financially... You are not punished for seeking out an alternative. You just have to still pay for the public education system like everyone else who pays taxes. Public education is for the public good. You may or may not choose to also use it as daycare for your kid. Should we set up a voucher system so people who don't have kids can get their money back?

Compared to when I was a kid, the dog-doo problem is now non-existent! Watching out for the landmines used to be a normal everyday part of playing football out at the park. Now that there isn't much of a problem though it makes it much more traumatic for us dogless to get poopsoiled as we are now desensitized. Keep up the good work dogowners!!! I love watching you guys walking around holding a plastic bag as far away as possible from your bodies! I get great glee watching you stoop down to retrieve the gifts of your cute cuddly-wuddly friends. Thank you!!!

FS, Public education needs to be thought of as a means to benefit the entire community, not just your own kids. Society benefits with a better educated populace. Vouchers suck money away from the already woefully underfunded public school system.

quote: Either suck it up and *prove* your intense commitment MtnGoat, I have no power to prove anything to you. Your consistent anti-community stance and ability to create facts to bolster your bullshit arguments belies solipsism in the extreme. I cannot prove anything to you because in your world, you create all that exists.

I took a fast-learning newbie out to Index and let him lead Godzilla (he had already led crux pitches of Outer Space that year). He took a head first whipper. He didn't get injured (his pro held) but his drive to climb appeared to taper off quickly following that incident. You sure you wanna do that to yourself? I find Index be intimidating enough when it's not damp .
-
Rob, MtnGoat is right the problem would be that it would cost him a little. Going anti-environmental cost him nothing because everyone knows he is antienvironmental, and he still got enough votes. People like you perhaps are put off by his trash-the-environment stance, but not enough to actually take a stand. So either suck it up and stop whining about the guy you voted for, or do something about it.

I think we could make Greg W happy with 100% inheritance tax for everyone! That would mean only the hard-working people who earned their way would get ahead! NO HANDOUTS!!

How long is between when you drag your sorry ass out of bed and your on the box checking out CC.com? What's the usual amount of time elapsed before posting some spray? Does it take precedence over: that morning dump? coffee? shower? breakfast? going to work? gettting something done at work?

I was walking in to work today thinking about climbing ( with that?!) and thought about Godzilla compared to linking p2 of GM with either the Heart of the Country crack or p3 of GM and I think either of those linkups kicks butt on Godzilla. I guess I was always considering Godzilla some megaclassic because of what the guidebooks and sprayers and stuff say, but thinking about it now, I think they're not thinking very carefully. I mean, what's to recommend about Godzilla? It's steep and it's easy wrt how steep it is. It does have three cruxes I guess, that's way cool and you even have the little run out baby crux at the start, so well, now that I think about it, Godzilla is cool (not that I wasn't saying it wasn't). But with GM -> HOC you got steepness, you got cool liebacking around knobby roofs, OW crack if you want it and a totally sweet handcrack. I guess this is a little unfair comparison since I think this linkup is decidely more difficult than God Z but how about if you do the GM p2-p3 thing. Then it's probably easier than 'zilla or at least comparable, still as steep and you get the same steep laybacking and knobs, squeeze chimney thrutch (thankfully short), airy face/crack climbing then a soaring almost wide crack that you get to plunge your fist waay deeep insiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide. Sweet! Whattayou think? Better than typing about taxes for another day!

But you need to dodge a lot more too, if you're making more. I find it hard to believe that individuals bringing home > 100K$/year could legally shield > 20% of their income. But I'm interested in being educated if I'm wrong. What methods do these wealthy tax dodgers use? Maybe it's a dumb question, with an obvious answer, but I am clueless. Do you even have a quick off the cuff/out your ass/hypothetical/Goatlandish example to offer?

Ah the beauty of the internet. It is so easy to get information. You just ask, and ask, and ask, and very often you find the answers you seek. Sometimes you get a little abuse for asking really stupid inconsequential questions, but usually you get what you seek too. The secret is to have a little bit of a thick skin, and realize that you're not paying these people anything! I love the internet. It rocks . It is easy .
