alpinemorg Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Hello. Am curious if anyone has been climbing at the spires recently can tell me if there's any existing snow hiding or small streams of moving water in the basin below (S & W) the LIberty Bell group? Any beta is appreciated, trying to figure out how much we'll have to carry for some link-up days. Thanks, Morgan Quote
DPS Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) As of last weekend (8/18) there were streams on the approach from Blue Lakes trail head to the spires, but that was fairly low down. There were a few small trickles running over slabs on the the approach to SEWS, but I didn't see anything you could really gather water from. I saw no snow patches under any of the Liberty group spires. If you are doing the link up of the spires you should not count on finding water on route. Edited August 24, 2013 by DPS Quote
pcg Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Ditto above except on 8/14 there was snow beginning about 30' below the col between LB and Concord Tower looking down the east side. Quote
Pete_H Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 A little further below in Mazama there's water; and beer and espresso too. Quote
goatboy Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I was reading in the new WA PASS Supertopo guidebook that, in one of the route descriptions, it offers some little-known beta: The closest food, gas, and amenities are just down the road....at Tuolumne Meadows. Quote
Pete_H Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 In Supertopo guides all roads lead to Toulumne Meadows. Quote
genepires Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I wish the mtn loop hwy went to Toulumne meadows. Quote
