An abrasion proof plastic like polypropylene (whitewater kayaks) or acetal (fastex) would work. Tool organizer trays for the back of a car or blown out pickup truck liner - that kind of thing, would probably get you closer to what the mfgr's actually use for the real thing.

I wired on some cutouts from plastic bleach bottles to my old BD Switchblades. They only lasted for a couple climbs and weren't as effective as the rubber ones on my M12's. May be because those old BD's were cookie-cutters...
