With all the heavy dumps, I would say the avalanche issues would be high on the mixed routes until there has been some time for them to consolidate. Check up on the latest avalanche conditions and temps.

Usually the routes on Mt. Snoqualmie - NY Gully, Pnapple Express, aren't good until late season. At any rate I doubt it has been cold enough up there either for anything to come in shape.

We were up there yesterday skiing. Its further along than I would have thought with all of the precip. Was actually raining up high by the end of the day so with some cool wedder things would get better, for climbing.

I did the approach to chair peak on Sunday Dec. 30th. Started through the TH on the southeast side of the valley just across the alpental ski resort at 0745. After starting down the trail with snowshoes the snow was sugar, very loose and very deep. I knew I had to rock because the upcoming slopes would be questionable by 0900. Sure enough at 0830 trees were sluffing their weight and things were getting warm very quickly. Once I made my way to 5600 ft just below the end of the small ridge, the North Face of Chair Peak was just out of reach. The slopes were going off in places and Chair Peak was not granting passage. The descent to the valley on the west side was no fun and im glad that I left when I did. Fellow Ice climbers by the cliffs were reporting crappy ice conditions. I also heard that a guy was buried chest deep in a small avalanche on the east side of the valley around 0900 (where I approached in the morning). Glad to hear that he was ok. Scary stuff! Super beautiful day though:)

So.... Ice is not in yet, hollow and frail...give it a couple of weeks. The NF of Chair Peak should be solid in a month or so. The snow out there is still unstable and will probably stay that way for awhile if the weather persists.

Heads Up Peeps!!!!

Always check http://www.nwac.us/ before setting out on your mission. These guys know what they are talking about but still analyze the snow while you are out there and think for yourselves. Make sharp decisions!

See you guys out there in a couple of weeks
