billcoe Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 (edited) Received this adopt a crag email from the Access Fund today. If we can get a lot of folks for an hour then knock off and climb, it might be the best of both worlds. Consider bringing gloves, brooms, lil dustpans and hard buckets for glass cleanup. I once filled a full 5 gallon bucket with broken beer bottles early one spring when I was younger and more energetic. MJaso Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I'm in and would like to meet some peeps to climb with. Sad to say, but I've not been on rock since I've moved out to PDX 2 years ago. I can provide good belays and used to lead 5.7 (laugh it up, just being honest). I'm 41 and looking for for anyone willing to let me start back out on some of the easy climbs. My daughters gone for the summer so I have a lot more free time after work. Gear, gas, car I've got it all. Takers.....
billcoe Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 I got a spot up there that I'll show you which will blow your dress up for bouldering. Touch base when you see me up there and we'll compare notes as you might already be aware of the spot as it's not a secret. No Chalk on it please, just bring your shoes. BTW, the 5.7 thing means nothing as long as the technical skillz (belays, knots, rigging, etc) are topnotch IMO. But I'm slow to warm up to folks so I won't be tiring in. Anyway, I'm the short, unattractive old out of shape guy usually dressed in dark slacks and brown Ralph Lauren Polo loafers. My name is Bill, as the avatar says - that's not a pic of me over there though. Say hi up there. I look more like this, cut my hair recently but no longer have the beard. Lower photo looks more like me, thats Plaidman on the right. That's all I have for recent photos non of the old ones look like me any more.
stevetimetravlr Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 No Chalk on it please, just bring your shoes. No chalk! Why thats downright un-American!! Are you a recent convert to the Communist party? Do you like sweaty palms? No, don't answer that...

pcg Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 My son and I are in and look forward to meeting some other folks.
billcoe Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Arrrrrgggghhh! No chalk ye Lubbers! (cough * tillitgetshard * COUGH)
KyleJ Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I hope to be there this week as well. I have only been back to climbing for a few months, (mostly inside), but am likely to be living incredibly close to Rocky Butte within the next few weeks. Looking forward to helping out and meeting you fine folks.

billcoe Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 Nice seeing folks getting on it...seems kind of a light turnout but maybe we can dress that up next go round. A few of us who'd worked our asses off all day (not me as I'm an office turd) snuck out a tad early and did a lap. Showed up smelling strongly of beer of course from all the beer dripping all over my clothes as we climbed up the Emotional Rescue 4th class scramble with holes in the bags.... Nice meeting some new folks too! Keep up the good work. Of interest is that the police had the front road blocked off -100% with police cars sideways with lights on and crime tape behind them. Everyone was turned back and made to go down the other way. That's damned unusual, hopefully they finally found Yashanee Vaughn's body up there. Chad and I saw some obvious unusual and suspicious drag marks in the dirt at the top of Toothpick and we both were like "oh oh"......"nah", and went back to picking up garbage. Here's the story if anyone is interested. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Family-hopes-to-ramp-up-efforts-to-find-Yashanee-Vaughn--124165949.html The young man in the photo has been officially charged with murder based on the fact that she was seen getting in his car about a mile away from where we were picking up the gargbage tonight and primarily her blood was splattered all over his bedroom, but they don't have her body to this day. He obviously murdered her, but where is she? The boy isn't saying and the family is left twisting in the wind. So in case anyone noticed the orange tags all over up there on all the trees and bushes, those were left from the search for the young girls body a bit ago on Rocky Butte when they had the whole place closed down and this dominated front page on the news for a few weeks. Both the alleged dickhead in the pic above and the young girl lived a few blocks away from the base of the butte. I hope that they find this little girl so that the family can finally have some peace. As a parent I can relate to just how damn heartbreaking this must be for her loved ones. Damn sad. Thanks again!
billcoe Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 Looks like I might have called it right up there. I hope that this poor little girls family can finally find some peace. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Search-for-Yashan-125613373.html "Search for Yashanee Vaughn continues Friday by Justin Burto @KGWNews Posted on July 14, 2011 at 9:08 PM Updated today at 9:22 PM PORTLAND -- Police crews will continue their search for the body of Yashanee Vaughn around Rocky Butte on Friday. Portland Police Bureau Lt. Robert King said crews will be doing additional searches for Vaughn, though he couldn't confirm when crews would be there or where exactly they would be searching. King couldn't divulge why crews have decided to continue their search tomorrow, other than to say that it's an on-going homicide investigation. Police crews were seen in the area around Rocky Butte on Thursday evening. A spokesman for Vaughn's family said they were notified of the plans for Friday's search, and they are aren't making any public comment until they talk first with police and the Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office." What a horrible thing. Damn it all.
MJaso Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Sorry I missed you Bill & Plaidman. I got out of work at 6 then compounded with traffic I made it out there around 7. Just enough time to met some good people and make a clean-up lap down at the bouldering area. Scored an old spring car seat and bag o porn and trash. I'll catch yo guys next time if you go and will definately plan on leaving work early.
billcoe Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Cool. CU next time. I heard on the radio that tonight is the Yashnee memorial up on the Butte someplace. Ujahn called me and said it's too wet up there to climb, so anyone heading up check it out. Of particular note from last Thursdays clean up was seeing Gary Rall himself, owner of The Portland Rock Gym, show up with some hardcore looking climbers and all head over to the schwingus to do some actual work and clear off all the Ivy and the crap. I knew it was Gary cause he had some free tickets to his climbing gym. I snatched one before he gave them to Amber to distribute. Sooooo, free gym passes, in fact, I should have my weak ass over there right now as it's dry and nice inside of The Portland Rock Gym unlike wet Rocky Butte LOL! I was in there once and some young kid was campusing laps like there was no tomorrow. When I went over and looked at the size of the strips, and realized that I'd be happy to hang there for 2 seconds or more without pulling a finger tendon, I got depressed. pfft, kids. We need to support those who support us, and cleaning up the trash at the local climbing place is above and beyond and worthy of support IMO. Thanks all!!!!
Plaidman Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I look more like this, cut my hair recently but no longer have the beard. Lower photo looks more like me, thats Plaidman on the right. That's more like Flabman. That's O.K. I am taking care of that. I plan on being half the man I used to be. Lost 6# already.
JosephH Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I plan on being half the man I used to be. Lost 6# already. Good on you for that, keep it up, and good luck with it - you definitely have the spirit for climbing to see it through.
