Hey everyone-

My name is Cary, and I've recently relocated back to the PNW (Portland OR). I grew up climbing in the Cascades and moved out to the E coast about 10 years ago. The majority of the climbing I've done out there was all sub-alpine: Rock, bouldering and a lot of hiking. Anything above the snowline was all about backcountry riding with minimal gear (transeiver, shovel, probe, snowshoes, snowboard and a bit of food). It's been a good 10 years since I've done any real alpine climbing and am looking forward to getting back into it. I remember all the basics but its amazing what has changed in just the last 10 years.

I'm back and restocking on some of my older gear and looking forward to doing a bit of climbing this spring/early summer season. Hope to get to meet some of you.

Take it easy!

Thanks for the welcome!

I lived in southern FL (Tampa Bay) for a few years, then NYC (midtown) after that. It was voluntary (surprising I know - who wants to move east?) for a work opportunity I couldn't pass up.

I'm definitely glad to be back in the PNW - even if the weather sucks so far.

I was up at timberline this morning doing a training/test run of some new gear setups. It was BEAUTIFUL above about 5,500'. Hood was a little demure with a small cloud ring just obscuring the gates and the summit.

Looks like I'm going to need some new boots. My old ones just weren't cutting it today.

So gents/ladies, how does this board work? Do you all get together every now and then for beers or a climb? I imagine most folks have a static climbing group since it can be tough (and dangerous) to climb with someone you don't know/trust.

If anyone is interested, I'll be up at Timberline tomorrow around 6:30am for a quick weighted pack training sprint to the top of the lift and possibly a little beyond. Need to start breaking in the new boots.

Gatherings of this group (called Pub Clubs) used to happen weekly. There was always someone/someplace to go drinking. But it seems like about a year or so ago we just sorta stopped doing that.

And we used to do the annual Rope-Up at Leavenworth. But last year was the first year that we didn't have one. And the Portlandians used to do Smiff Tuft Luv right around the same time as RU. But there wasn't a STL last year either. I don't know what's happened to us... :(

I do see in the Events and the *freshiezone* forums that we're still doing the annual Ski-In up at WA Pass. It's this weekend, so you better get to driving... :)

@ Oly - Summit run is planned for this Thurs night, weather permitting.

@ Sobo - Too bad a lot of those are going by the wayside. Who used to organize them? Maybe it's time to fire a few up! Won't be able to make it out to WA pass this weekend - I have a preggo (and bad morning sickness) wife to take care of.

Couple quick pics from this Saturday - it was beautiful but crazy windy.
