TheNumberNine Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I weigh about 165 + pack (60-70 lbs) thoughts? Would 28"x 8" snowshoes work? Quote
genepires Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 route and time of year? for west buttress and normal climbing season, yes those are fine. There is a perma snowshoe/ski track up the kahiltna highway. Quote
TheNumberNine Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 west butt- june 16th. thanks, pooh-bah Quote
ivan Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 this is when you can expect to be heckled about not skiing i'm a gargantuan goddamn mammal, several stones heavier than you at any rate, and your standard msr-denali sized slowshoes worked just fine for me Quote
AlpineK Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 On my Denali trip I was on skis and my two partners were on slow shoes. I snowplowed down motorcycle hill so we could stay roped up and I didn't drag them down the hill There are good slopes for skiing right above the 14grand camp on the West Buttress route. Quote
TheNumberNine Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 I'm actually a snowboarder. I've been looking into split-boards but I decided that this winter I'm just going to bite the bullet and learn how to ski... Unfortunately that will be after my Denali expedition so I suppose I'll just have to suffer through the snail's pace Quote
genepires Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 snails pace going up is a good thing. a very good thing. Quote
