mzvarner Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Trying to decide between NBC and NEBC on Colchuck. From what I have read, NEBC seems easier with the difficulty being the cornice? Am I way off? Quote
DPS Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 North Buttress Couloir is easier than the Northeast (AKA NE Buttress) Couloir. Quote
mzvarner Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 Is it just a steep snow slog then take a left up hill more, once you get on the N face? Quote
DPS Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Is it just a steep snow slog then take a left up hill more, once you get on the N face? Are you asking about the North Buttress Couloir? It leads to the West face and the difficulty is conditions dependant. Quote
mzvarner Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 Yes sorry, it was a typing error. I am just trying to get an idea of what to expect in the coming week. Quote
genepires Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 NBC is a good route especially early season. Can get tricky in late may when it melts out somewhat. It gets sun early in the morning so have a cold or overcast day. Near the top of the initial gulley, there is a another gulley heading off left and up. Don't take that but head straight up to the saddle and onto the west face to teh summit. Be avi aware. Quote
mzvarner Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 good to know. I am also paying attention to the NWAC forecasts which are a bit of a bummer at the moment. Quote
