Jim Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Sheesh - can't believe a non-fan beat out PP on the post! Quote
Crack Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 "TRADE HIM NOW!!!" You're kidding right? For what -another handful of left fielders and first basements? We are on the same page regarding King Felix though! Quote
prole Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) The Mariners should stop pretending they're anything other than what they are right now: the west coast version of the Kansas City Royals. The 2010 M's scored the fewest runs of any team since the DH was instituted in 1973 and had one of the worst offenses in the modern era. Is this team going to compete during the duration of Felix's contract? Is the team more likely to compete with a number of players or prospects we could get for him or by keeping him to pitch every five days and still only get 13 wins? We've been told the team is in rebuilding mode, rebuild. Edited November 19, 2010 by prole Quote

Crack Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Dumping everyone they have (except Ichiro) and loading up the rosters with minor leaguers and has beens still isn't working. They need to keep their rock stars as a foundation to reBUILD off of...they've been feeding Felix since he was 16. To dump him now would be an insult and a waste to everyone involved, including the fans. KK -for us Mariners fans the speculating in the off season is all we got these days! And besides Vick, what's really goin' on in the NFL besides an evening out of the playing field? RIP Niehaus... Quote
Peter_Puget Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I am hard at work typing up my Cooperstown trip report. The annual post season trip to the hall of fame always is wonderful. They even have the giants 2010 display up. Quote
prole Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Maybe trading (not "dumping") Felix would be seen as a waste to those who've put resources into developing him it certainly would to those who put together his recent contract. (Mariners fans can go shag fly balls on the Sounder tracks for all I care.) But we should see the remainder of Felix's contract as a time window. Is this team capable of competing for a championship in the next six years without trading him? Can you build a roster around one guy who can realistically only stop the bleeding 13 times in a season before he's up for another payday? The personnel has to come from somewhere, the farm, drafts, trades, or free agents. Who's on the farm, really? Free agents? Nobody's EVER been stoked to come here, they cost too damn much, and this team needs more than just a couple pieces. I'm not sure I trust the M's drafting, we've sucked for years and produced all of one ingrateful, bubblebutted KGJ. Wow? Felix's value might never be higher and the M's needs for building long-term have never been greater. We could get five or six top-level position playing prospects for this guy. That's worth a hell of a lot more than Felix Day! once a week to wash the taste of the rest of the week from your mouth. Quote
