KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Does someone have recent beta on Dragontail? Would ice axe or crampons be necessary on any part down from the summit to Colchuck lake right now? Quote
summitchaserCJB Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Looked pretty snowy week before last. But I guess it all depends on your preference. Quote

Stopgo Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) We climbed Serpentine last weekend and debated the same thing. Ended up bringing our axes and 'pons and were happy to have them for the walk down to Aasgard. We ran into three other parties, one party did not have axes or 'pons and were having a tough time. summitchaserCJB Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 so this begs the question- Is it better to be a "hardman" and go ultralight and cry like a baby when the s*** hits the fan or bring more gear, risking looking like a noob who is paranoid about everything going wrong? Quote
summitchaserCJB Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think I'll always be a noob at heart. You get too comfortable and you start making mistakes. I don't know many noobs that can lead 5.10d-5.11a trad. Quote
mountainninja Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I'm looking for a partner a for trip to Aasgard or wherever: In search of a self-important douchebag , correcting my English will be appreciated, it would be a plus if you can lead 5.9, a must for you to spray that you can lead 5.10d+--5.11a-trad with gear preplaced. It would be great if you have matching quickdraws also. Quote
kevino Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Another option is to not bring extra gear and know how to navigate the terrain. Quote
kevino Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Sorry that came off rude. If you're looking to save weight, don't bring the axe and pons. If the snow is too hard you can rappel, which has been discussed previously, or you can walk simple terrain around to near the witches tooth and descend in a non technical fasion. Quote
kevino Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 And summit chaser, if you're a hard man you don't cry, you figure shit out with what you have. Quote

dennyt Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Let those find fault whose wit's so very small, They've need to show that they can think at all; Errors, like straws, upon the surface flow; He who would search for pearls, must dive below. --John Dryden Quote
