carlhulit Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Looking to buy a bivy as rei has or alpine bivys on sale, but im 6'3" and use a long sleeping bag and worried about fit. does anyone have suggestions on what my best option is? thanks Quote
summitchaserCJB Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 umn...you shouldn't have a problem. Why not try them on at the store? I'm 6'2" and also use a long and Sierra Designs has some good options. Quote
zhanx Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 as long as your not wide like me you shouldn't have an issue. I have a feather friends long nano swallow and I fit the longs fine at 6'4" 240 but i had to learn not to roll as i dont want to pay for a custom bivy. Quote
grinter Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 6'5"er and I have the long or XL BD hooped bivy, plenty of room for me and some gear at my feet, absolutely bomber, kept me dry in downpour and warm at 4F, only issue is the bulkiness, but I still cram it in my pack most of the time just in case Quote
Vickster Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I'm 6'6" and 250, integral designs eVent Unishelter. Lots of room, can put your boots up by your head. Jim Quote
fenderfour Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I will say to avoid the Bibler hooped and big wall bivies. They are not wide enough. Quote
carlhulit Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 tried the OR at REI and that will not cut it is the black diamond spotlight sufficiently waterproof for real rain or do I need to get a bibler or integral designs Quote
robpatterson5 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I'd stay away from the BD Winter Bivy for rain, a few drops it is fine for but rain will come through. Quote
ivan Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 just got a roll of tyvek n' cut to fit seriously, elaborate bivy bags are retarded - ultra-minamilist is best - i have some sort of basic marmot thing - it's water-proof no matter what and if it's pouring out, the best bet no matter what you have, if yer so fawked as to only have a bivy, is simply to get pissed n' pass out. simple bivy bags are nice b/c you can carry them along in winter in addition to a tent, especially if you have an also recommended light sleeping bag, given the moderate nature of our ragged-ass hillz Quote
