SExNW Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Wondering if anyone knows how much snow is on Stuart right now? Looking to make a W. Ridge attempt this weekend. Suggestions? Warnings? Encouragements? Edited October 1, 2009 by SExNW Quote
dennyt Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) As of last Friday, none. All bets are off this week... Edited October 2, 2009 by dennyt Quote
AlpinWeiss Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 As someone who's been up Stuart a few times after cold rain events I can say that it's pretty likely that there will be some fairly significant rime ice on the west ridge, it'll probably get worse as you swing around to the north side of the mountain for the final pitches. I can say that from the col by Long John Tower even with ice challenges you can rap/downclimb the route with a single 60m rope. So you can likely get up there without things getting too committing. SExNW Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Eh, we missed it by a day. Camped at Stuart Pass Sat. night and got dumped on pretty good. Too much snow/ice in the morning for our comfort level, so we decided to abort. Nice work getting up the slippery mountain, Drederek! Quote
Drederek Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Thx, we were lucky saturday was our only option as the forecast was better for sunday. When we got above the trees on the trail towards Longs pass the mtn was fogged over and by the time we got to the top it was snowing rather steadily. We were thinking it would have been a mess up there sunday, sorry you missed it. Quote
