PhöQ Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I was curious if anyone could link or recommend a GOOD reference for the West Coast Trail. I have a friend that said it was an awesome trip and I would love to check it out. I see alot of reference books, does anyone have a good and concise favorite? Thanks in advance! Quote

murraysovereign Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I've never done the WCT, so can't speak to the accuracy of any of the guides, but "Blisters and Bliss" has been around for 20 years and is now in it's fifth edition. While others may provide a different spin on things, B&B is probably as good a place to start as any. Small enough to carry with you, too. Quote
PhöQ Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 Great recommendation MS, I checked it out online and it looks and sounds like a solid reference. Thanks! Quote
Roy Snyder Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 The West Coast Trail by Tim Ledem. It is available at SnoIsle library system, KCLS, and Seattle Public Libraries. I also have a copy I could lend to a stand up guy Quote
Off_White Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Why exactly are we in the Cafe for this? I didn't think there was much that was delicate or sensitive about a fairly burly outing like the West Coast Trail. Quote
PhöQ Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 O_W I was thinking with all the burly folk about, any chatting about mere hiking might be better suited to a forum for touchy feely discussion I was attempting to quell any spray in advance Quote
G-spotter Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 a fairly burly outing like the West Coast Trail. a hike, along a beach, with its own hamburger stand partway... is not exactly "fairly burly". Quote
wayne Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 It is a worthy pursuit. We did it in 4 days and went light. S to North. Very fun. Quote
AlpineK Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I've never hiked the West Coast trail. I have done a day hike from near Bamfield out to the Pacific Coast. It isn't, "burly," like climbing is defined. It is really cool though. We had to get a key to a canoe chain lock, hike, canoe, then hike over a ridge. The beaches there are spectacular and worth the effort. There may be hamburger stands on the West Coast Trail, but there was none of that where we went. No other people either. Of course things may be different since the 70s. Quote
