designgrizzly Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Anybody know of a good hill to start practicing tele turns on? I would prefer not to pay $60 for a lift ticket, either... Cheers Quote
Hugh Conway Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Trick question. There's never a good reason to tele turn Quote
mike1 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 St Helen's. Telemark rules! But it's only really fun if you're good at it... Quote
selkirk Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Telemark rules! But it's only really fun if you're good at it... That's not true!! It's fun even if your mediocre, it's just not a bit practical that I can see If you're already good at downhill, you'll probably pick Tele up relatively quickly. Quote

In other words, it's fun - but really fun if you're good at it. Edited December 22, 2008 by Mikester Quote
Hugh Conway Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 If you are a beginner skier, start at a ski area. You'll progress quickly in a couple of days and make your touring safer and more fun. In other words, it's fun - but really fun if you're good at it. So there's what, 3 tele skiers having lots of fun? Quote
Alex Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 If Alpental is still closed on Mondays, go hike their ski hill. Quote

Agree that ski areas will give you the most turns per day. And if you're really just beginning, go somewhere you can ride a rope-tow for free, like Baker. Quote
NateF Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 good idea curtveld. that made me think of the little ski area in Leavenworth, it would be a fun spot to get your turns on for cheap, with apres-ski burgers and table tennis. i forget if they have a rope tow or a poma. Quote
Frikadeller Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) I bought a tele set up this year off Craigslist.... I am gonna try this craft at a local beginners hill called Summit... $20 for a lift ticket does not sound like it will break the bank. And if tele completely sucks for me, I'll just make sure I bring my Splitboard, and get my shit on! (I know, the conversion from snowboarder to skier might happen, but hey, that's just how the ball rolls in life) Edited December 23, 2008 by Frikadeller Quote
